This little tip got me out of my Cingular contract way back when I was a customer, and this tip has worked with everyone I've given it to, and I think it's time that I passed it along.
All you have to do is call up Cingular and tell them you are moving to Europe. Since Cingular doesn't offer service there, they can't charge you that nasty early termination fee. If you doubt this tip try it for yourself, if you get any crap just ask for a supervisor.
This tip also works for T-Mobile.

hahahaha....!
...
This is very useful information, but do they ask any follow up questions as to, which country, when your leaving, you know stuff like that....
...
Oh, please let me know,,,
...
So far nobody I've given this tip to has had any problems, as long as you don't say you are moving because you joined the armed services, just tell them you are moving at the end of the (day, week, month, whatever) and set that termination date. You could be going to Australia to help take care of your sick mother, or you could be going to Africa to help baby lions deliver their young, it doesn't really matter.
If you really get crap on this call one of these 2 numbers.
Cingular office of the president- 877-734-0766 or 1-866-894-2464

One question... Where did you find the # for the president of cingular?
...
Cingular employees are great! Especially when you date one for 3 years, you get all sorts of inside info. How they treat their employees in the call center, how regular people can get dropped calls because upper management has special SIM settings that will force their way on to any tower... Stuff like that.
...
I called the # to the office of the president. I got to speak to the CEO of Cingular Wireless, Stan Stigman. He went over my rate plan with me, gave me my minutes of use, and also helped me trouble shoot why I was not able to receive text messages.
🤣 Got cha'! Now wasan't that a good laugh!!

Wow, you've obviously gotten ahold of some really dipshit representatives. If you had called most of the reps I know, or could influence, I would cancel your contract, IF you can provide me with a property purchase contract in the NEW country you are MOVING too, and if you CAN'T, I'd have you write Cingulars correspondance address from you NEW address, requesting to cancel your contract. Now IF you are truly MOVING, neither of those requests should be any problem for someone to fulfill................don't you think????? By the way, I will pass this thread onto the Office of the president, as an enlightenment tool.
Thanks!!!!!!!!!

well put
...
Good, I'm sure they will enjoy it, we all know how good Cingular is at adapting to new situations, oh wait no they're not

Well, I think they do even better at IDIOTIC ones!!!!!!! Just my personal observation.....
...
You seem so angry, why is it such a big deal that there is an easy way out? Do you think that people should have to put up with service that they aren't happy with?
...
so does this actually work or not? if so, is there anything that might prevent it from not working like them doing a follow up?
...
It worked on me, it worked for my mom, my sister in law, a few of my cousins, my ex gf, my old boss and other random people.
What follow up could they possibly do if you were being flown out by the company you work for and were staying in another country for the next 2-3 years?
...
good point. i love cingulars service n all, but there are some features of verizon that i miss, like free mobile internet, and i want ringback tones too. btw, whens cingular going to start their ringback tone service like verizon has? i've seen it on this forum before.
...
Is that the thing where people hear a song instead of a ring when they call you?
...
yep, i heard on a thread a few pages deep here that cingular was gonna do it too, but i've never been able 2 find a date
...
It sounds fun, but it would probably just confuse any old people that call me 🙂
...
i usually don't get old people calling me. do a search in here for ringback, and you should see a post by me that is in the appropriate thread.

I don't believe that moving to another country any company will let you out of the contract but I'll check the policy.
I know Ballys Totally Fitness lets you out of the contract under such situation.
...
If you move to where the company doesn't provide service they can't hold you to the contract. DirecTV is the same way.

Legally they can it is not up to the company that you moved. There is no law requiring a company to waiver an ETF if you move to a non service area. Military personal can because they have absolutely no choice they move or go to jail pretty much.

There is nothing in policy that allows this Any rep that waives the fee other then for military reasons for this one should be immediately terminated and billed the termination fee and the customers monthly service for the remainder of the contract. I know on the blue side it was definitely never a reason to waive the fee.
...
if they get a $175 discount on a phone, yes
if you wanna get out, stop being cheap and just give back your $175, easy as that
...
On the blue side? If you are talking about the anal retentive assholes at the former AT&T you are right, they would not let anyone out of a contract except with proof that they are joining the military. However Cingular had a different policy, and if you get crap just keep asking for a supervisor.
...
i just love the fact that someone posts something about getting out of a cingular contract and within 1 day theres like 30 interested replys. Sounds like cingular is keeping thier customers happy. 🤣
...
There would be people interested in this information regardless of what company it was.
