3G?
Does anyone know when TMO will be heading towards implimenting 3G in a possible EDGE form? I know that At&t/Cingular are coming out with EDGE and will be upgrading to UMTS in the near future. I havent heard a peep from what TMO will be doing. Anyone know?

From the grapevine here at the call center, I have heard that we will be launching that very quick. There was also some talk that we were going to buy the equipment from Nokia. These are all rumers, mind you. Actual release dates...I don't have any. Did that answer your question, kinda? 😁

ya sort of. Thanks. ID like to stay w/ TMO if they could just improve their data situation. I dont like the slow speeds i get w/ T-zones. Went into a AT&T wireless store that had live demos and i tried their phones mMode and it seemed to respond quicker even for phones not using the EDGE technology. It was nice. Wish all wireless carriers would do that so that you could see what phone fit you better without having to buy it.

We spent a whole lot of money implementating the GPRS system in order to get a jump start in the wireless data industry. We did the same thing with Wi-Fi through our hotspot service. I know T-Mobile wants to be on top of the data game, because it attracts youthful customers who tend to spend a lot on extra services, and business customers, who tend to have low churn rates and high monthly bills. Unfortunately this may not be possible for us at the moment. Our GPRS service is definitely not the fastest out there, but it's not that much slower then EDGE. Considering the cost of implementating a data technology for use by customers, upgrading just a small step isn't going to be a financial possibility. I'm hoping we'll be on top of the game soo...

EDGE won't be in test markets until Q3 04'. I had a chance to sit in on a meeting with some key executives including the head of engineering, who said there wouldn't be a full EDGE roll out until Q1 05'
