the way the GSM network with Tmobile works is that in the US and North America, the network operates off of the 1900 mHz frequency, in europe and asia, the networks are calibrated to 900 and 1800 or both.

Hmmmm so what is the 850 band?

More specifically whats the difference between the SE T610 and the SE T616

T610 - 900/1800/1900
T616 - 850/1800/1900

If all carriers in the US are 1900 - then why do we have two models of the same phone?

T-Mobile uses only 1900.
AT&T and Cingular use the 850 bands in some areas. T-Mobile has no plans to use the 850.

Each license was auctioned off years ago - they're all owned now. The only way to get a license now is to buy one from someone willing to sell. When someone is willing to sell a wireless license, (not often) it's usually for billions of dollars.

So... why don't AT&T and Cingular use 1900 everywhere? Because they...
