New plans, coverage, merger???
If the merger with ATT goes through, and you sign up with the new value unlimited plans, will you be able to keep this plan? Also, what will happen to the coverage being they use 2 different frequencies? Radio Shack says its going to increase the coverage to more than Verizon

If I go by what we did at Verizon the plans will go up. I am actually on T-mobile, that is my carrier. But I worked for Verion for about 2 years. When Verizon merged the prices did not take over automatically. Customers that were on Alltel got to keep their current plan as long as they had an Alltel phone. But once they got a new phone from verizon, they had to change their plan. Honestly, I think that is the way our merge will go also. that is why i am hoping it does not happen. At&t prices are the same as Verizon so for a t-mobile customer that would be really far from the price plan ranges we are use to having. We would be paying more out of pocket if we merge. That is my thoughts on how that will work.

I agree. I hope ATT doesn't take it over either. T-mobile is a good company being taken over by a not so good one. All they will do it drag it down to ATT's level. I can't believe that Deutsche Telecom would want to get out of the US market in the first place. T-Mo is the alternative to the big players high prices. More competition is better than less.

Deutsche Telecom wants out because T-Mobile USA is losing money big time. The geographical vastness of the US cost a lot of money to build a network across, and to pay for it you need a lot more customers at higher rates than what T-Mobile has and is charging. The business model has failed.

Misleading lies. T-mobile had a 2nd quarter net income of $212 million. T-Mobile USA is profitable and has been profitable. The growth or shall I say lack thereof is the main issue. Limited spectrum has put T-Mobile behind in the 4G game and with little for sale it seems to be a losing proposition to the parent company.

As a Verizon employee, I have yet to force any former Alltel customer off of their plan. The closest I got was about a month ago when I couldn't add a line to their existing plan, even though the other plans from the same set (different minutes) were available. It was a computer glitch that's now been fixed. And we do a fair number of former Alltel upgrades/adds every month.

Verizon might be a different story, but if you look at AT&T Wireless/Cingular it wasn't 2 years before they started to push people off from their plans. It was especially true of the charter plans $39.99 1,000 minutes and $99.99 unlimited.

It depended on the market. The most generous was about 2 years...and God forbid you needed a new phone...

If history repeats itself AT&T will let you keep your plan until it's time to upgrade, or you need to replace your phone. Back when Cingular purchased AT&T Wireless, the customers AT&T wireless had were allowed to keep their plans and phones for the time left on their agreement. Once their agreements ended, then Cingular forced them all to move to one of the rate plans Cingular offered at the time. If you do get a new phone from T-Mobile protect it for all it's worth. If something happens after the buyout you may be out of luck.
