Prepaid Vs. Postpaid Data

truthinsuffering

So can anyone tell me what kind of speeds one can expect on a Prepaid 4g T-Mobile Data Plan? I know some companies slow the data speeds of their Prepaid customers. I am currently on T-Mo Postpaid and I am clocking 6.17Mbs on Mobile data on a Mytouch 4g (stock). So.... Anyone?

I believe it depends on the prepaid plan. For example, they have $50/$60/$70 unlimited talk/text/data plans, with 250 mb, 2GB, and 5GB of 4G data..

Also, it depends on the device, whether the phone is HSPA (3G), HSPA + (14-42 Mbps) or EDGE..

This should help you...Any T-Mo people, correct me if any of my info is wrong.

He was asking for me as he is a T-mobile user and I am a virgin mobile user. I've never had any issues with calls or texts with Virgin, but the data is HORRIBLE. (I average about 240kbps as he is running over 3000 easily in the same call center building.) I was thinking about switching to get faster data but want to stay prepaid and wasn't sure if the data would be worse or not.

And yes I would be planning on getting a 4g phone, (Thinking about the LG G2X)

The Most common Plan $50 Unlim Talk & Text & Data which only includes 100 m/b.
Once the customer’s Web usage exceeds the Data Speed Reduction Threshold, the customer’s speed is reduced to (at most) 50 kbps (comparable to dial-up).

Lots of Wi-Fi usage, disabling the data connection when out of Wi-Fi. Or people who just don't use their phone for more than talk/text, but do want some apps that don't use data.

Thank you for stating that. It's not as though you have no other options.

But does anyone know if the speeds for the pre-paid service BEFORE going over your data limit are the same as post-paid or are they slower because you are not on contract?

I believe they are the same...as stated before, it depends on your device (and plan) for your actual speed, whether it is prepaid or postpaid.
