Judge ruled today Verizon can acquire those markets.
By the way - check phones for new PRLs - will preffer Verizon markets over Sprint.
...
Wow I thought the ruling was on January 9th.
Where did you hear this I can't believe they ruled this on New Years Eve day
No offense but is there anywhere to back up this information
thanx

Saw it on Howard Forums... The Alltel area...
Quote: "A federal judge ruled today that Verizon Wireless can reacquire 22 former Bell Atlantic/GTE markets from Alltel, eliminating the need for a special “Hold Separate Trust.â€Â
The markets were to have been placed in the Hold Separate Trust if the judge didn't rule before the close of the Alltel/Verizon merger.
That means they will now transition to Verizon when the Alltel/Verizon closes early in January. The markets are located in Florida, Alabama, South Carolina, Ohio, New Mexico, Texas and Arizona.
Today’s decision has no impact on the “Management Trust†that will oversee the 105 markets that federal regulators are requiring Verizon to sell as a ...

Interesting... There is also an article on Crackberry. However, I cannot find any news source. I've searched google, yahoo and alta vista. Nothing... I hope it is not a hoax.
...
The person that started the post @ HowardForum is an Altell insider and posted something from an employee-only web site. At least that's what I suspect. 😉
...
I am an Alltel Corp. employee and the information in reguards to the markets set up in teh trust going to Verizon are true. I wish I could share the direct link to this information but its an employee interal site Alltel and Verizon have up and running for the time being.

So can you guys tell me if verizon will be my new carrier in ohio? just north of columbus. Im really needing to know so i know to wait or to upgrade, my reps at my store are idiots and say "Oh, your best bet may be to go to sprint"....wtf....idiots...anyhow yea my blackberrys falling apart, so need to do a move, quick.
...
A federal judge makes a ruling and it is secret?
...
Is my area of Ohio getting to go to Verizon? Im close to Columbus if that matters?
...
Well according to that map it looks like ill stay alltel? will that mean no verizon phones to my account as well then?
...
I thought it meant that everyone is going to VZW because the judge let them have the 22 markets that were to be in a trust?
...
No, the divested markets will remain Alltel until somebody other than VZW buys them.
...
Does anyone have any idea who might purchase the divested markets?
...
That's a loaded question. Alltel operates lots of GSM coverage. In fact, in the four state region of SD, ND, WY, MT, TMO and ATT are using the Alltel Network.
So it would fill many holes in the either one of the major GSM carriers.
USCC would be another major contenders (one would think). They just started rolling out EVDO to many of their markets. So the four state region would also be very appealing to them (again, one would think).
However, as spread out as the dark blue (DM) are, I think it will be many different carriers who jump on this opportunity to expand.
VZW has 180 days to have them completely divested off. So the ones that don't sell right away, might end up being acquired for much less than they are worth.

Red, yellow, light blue - all Alltel customers are going to become VZW.
Dark Blue - Will not become VZW, must be sold off to another company. They have 180 days to find a buyer, starting Jan. 9th.
Not sure of your location. If you can't tell from the map, then what's your zip code?
...
My zip code is 44060 and thank you for the help too
S
...
Go to alltel.com and use the store look-up tool - it will soon, if not already - be able to identify your zip code as being divested or non-divested, and will direct you to resources for customer service.
...
OK - The look up tool has not been posted yet, or at least I haven't seen it.
But looking at the maps, you are just to the Northeast of Cleveland. Can't quite tell if you are in the dark blue or in the yellow.
If you in the dark blue you will continue to be Alltel until VZW finds another buyer. You would become somebody OTHER than VZW.
If you are in the yellow, according to the previous post above (from some guys who's post are always on the money), you would become VZW.
So look close on the divesture map - dark blue or yellow?
You can also wait until the look up tool get's posted.
Keep in mind it is where your area code are prefix are a local toll call from a landline.
...
Is non-divested. Will become Verizon.
...
Keith_IA
thank you for the information and where are you finding a zip code list I have several phones with Alltel and we are all in different areas right here in what was once the yellow area.
thank you again
Sandy
...
The 'yellow areas' from the map will be non-divested and become Verizon.
...
Keith,
I have said on these forums before that I am old so forgive me. How do we know that the yellow areas will not be sold off to someone else?
I mean now that a judge declared that VZW can purchase these 22 HST markets how do we know they are not something VZW wants to actually sell or parts of them?
TIA
S
...
All I know is the 'yellow areas' on the map are now going to become Verizon owned as a part of the deal to acquire Alltel and will not be placed in any 'hold separate trust'. It is what it is...
...
Im in Mansfield and just noticed that yeah im dark blue so ill remain alltel until someone buys these areas right? so most likely ill be sprint or att...ridiculous, and i work for att so atleast id get a 34% discount lol
...
Will those of us who live in areas that are going to remain alltel be given the oppotunity to go with VZW or will we just have to swap over on our own.
...
You'd have to cancel and switch on your own. If your in a market remaining Alltel, you will soon become another carrier within a year or so. Likely suitors would be AT&T, T-Mobile, US Cellular, etc. pending on where you are located.

i cant open the link to the map, access blocked, whats going to happen to eastern Kansas?
