In cases such as the Dakotas, they're divesting Alltel's network, which has both CDMA & GSM on it. Verizon already has native coverage there. For western Kansas, they're divesting their own network, which was part of the Unicel buyout, due to it being GSM only, and Alltel is already CDMA, and no GSM roaming in that area (per GSMworld.com).
