HTC Touch Diamond, wi-fi locked?

My Alltel rep said the wi-fi on the HTC Touch Diamond is strictly limited to Alltel Wi-Fi hot spots. Is this true? Sounds ridiculous to me.

Internal documentation has no mention of requirements for Wi-fi usage. 802.11 B/G supported.

I haven't noticed it being locked into Alltel only. I have used it at several locations including my wireless router.
