This is bull, I live in NW Iowa, and my region is up for sale because the FCC thinks that the my region won't have enough "competition". I was perfectly happy with Alltel, and will be dissappointed if some small company will buy them out.

Anyone know say in this area if it is possible to stay with verizon?

I don't understand their reason for divesting the far NW corner of Iowa, when they don't even have service there. Their CMA is split with Verizon having the bottom portion, & Alltel with the top portion, and the A side with USCC holding all of it. Since Verizon isn't likely in your area, then you're likely to be stuck with a smaller carrier. There are other areas where Verizon is div...

As released in the WSJ earlier this month...ATT is very active in the bidding and obviously is in the best position to make a move. I know I'm hoping for ATT.

someone other then Verizon will own it due to Verizon being barred from owning markets they opted to divest. Also Verizon is a business in after saying that there are so many factors that go into competition. Verizon may feel its not worth it for them to keep service there and just pay roaming to some other company. Competition is limited by population and the willingness of companies wanting to do business there.

Verizon would keep service there if they could.

Less Roaming = more money.

Its the FCC, not Verizon.

The area Verizon is divesting doesn't have Verizon, but at the same time, they're selling it. Verizon & Alltel have a split B side license, with Verizon covering the southern portion of far NW Iowa, and Alltel to the north. USCC can't acquire Alltel there due to owning the entire A side. Since Verizon wants to sell off Alltel in that CMA, AT&T and a smaller carrier are the only choices, as T-Mobile avoids rural markets, and Sprint isn't interested in 800 band networks.

you missed my point. that tells me that verizon does not feel its worth the money to maintain the network and better for them to just pay the roaming fees.
