Can not port Alltel lines to Verizon?!?!?!

alz

I have about 10 phones on an Alltel account in Utah; I had plans to port these numbers over to Verizon because I was unhappy with the service. Now after the acquisition I'm being told that is not possible because it’s one of these divested areas or as they call it a Share market???? I want to keep the phone numbers for numerous reasons but am being told I am not allowed to port them over to Verizon... I totally feel like I’m being held hostage here. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. 👿 👿 👿

port them over to the carrier that is taking over the divested area. why port to a company that isnt going to be in your area anymore or port to a company that you will be %100 roaming in a divested market?

huh? Verizon will be in the area. What are you talking about. If they are their now with alltel then they are not divesting their network but alltels. And you can port from what have read but you will have to pay an ETF if there is one.

The Zip code there is 84066

Verizon is in the area and can sell there also. Im just being told that these lines cannot be ported to Alltel because of this "Share Market" thing???

Any help would be great.

goto Verizon's website and click on keep my number and input your phone number. I know my alltel number is able to be ported. I typed it in just to see.

Nope, kicks it back and says its not eligible. My Verizon Rep also told me it was not doable because of this share market thing. I'm just pissed off that they can hold my numbers hostage like this....

yeah it seems since they have a law that numbers are not the company's but yours that they should not be able to do that. Sucks.

It is not them holding your number hostage. It is another condition that the Government put into place for the buyout.

Eventually you will be able to port your number if you want to, but for the time being you are unable too. It is put in place to keep competition going until "everything" is done, as in the billing changed over, the network changed over, etc.

I was thinking of two options:
#1 port to either AT&T or T-Mobile for a week or so with a very basic GSM phone and then port over to Verizon if possible.

#2 pay the Early Term fee which should be decreasing over time in a 2 yr agreement and get a new # with Verizon or

Just wait for now as the prev post stated.

😳 😡 🙄

it has nothing to do with that as I am in a alltel area that is being integrated and I can port my alltel number to verizon. He is in an area being divested. So I would say it has to do with them finding a buyer. Then it will be free to be ported

Ya, that is what I meant. From divested to non divested. I am in a divested market and can not port to Verizon. That is what was set up. If you are in a market where you are becoming Verizon you should be able to port your number because you are Verizon.

It is divested to non divested that they put the freeze on.

Unless the OP's market is setup to not allow porting to Verizon, then the OP will have to pay an ETF in order to port over to Verizon, due to the Alltel market being divested. IN other markets where Alltel & Verizon overlap, not being divested, porting is allowed ETF free. Other Alltel markets would have to wait until the network is integrated to port over to Verizon.

No ETF free is not allowed in any market. I already tried to switch to a verizon plan and phone and was told no unless I wanted to pay the etf. Now once the billing and network is combined I am told it will be different.
