does anyone know why alltel will not give out acct numbers over the phone aside from the obvious fear of custies porting out. this is the first time I have encountered this prob. also the rep ask if there was anything else he could do for me... dont you have to do something in the first place to do something ELSE. what a joke of a carrier you are

Are you the account holder?

If not, you are not entitled to be provided that information.

You are not the account holder, so the rep did the right thing by not giving it to you, someone who is not the account holder.

the customer got on the phone and asked for it and was denied. the rep knew she was wanting to port out. he also received the worst survey possible

OK then, now that you've cleared that up...

There's also this matter right now about a 'freeze' on porting in preparation for account migration to the VZW billing system - if you're in an area where that is in effect, then again, I say kudos to the rep you were talking to. They did their job, and did it well.

did it well by alltel's standards possibly. the customer was mad as hell at you guys. you lost the customer anyway but made her mad in the process. every other carrier I have ever called has quickly given the customer any info about their account. I mean its theirs. and I am not in a trust area. there is no conflict where I am at when it comes to porting out to vzw. plus she is the one that asked to do I didnt even have to sell her. btw the rep told me to just put a 0 in for the acct number.

actually having worked for two different carriers and having customer port over from every carrier imaginable...most companies do not give out the account # over the phone. They will advise you to look at the top of your bill or access your account online to obtain that information. The only thing the rep could have told you was that you can send a text and get the information on alltel. However if you are in an area that is transitioning to Verizon you might have gotten an error back.

It is a matter of security...and company policy...

I have watched customers get their acct numbers over the phone from almost every carrier. hell I have acted like the customer for them as they watched. 9 yrs in wireless and this is the first time I have seen a customer have any problem getting info about their account

He's right. Alltel Customer Service is not what it used to be. Slowly getting better again. Since the company has now offically split, the divested side is definatly full of first timers. We have seen major improvements over the last month or so. It seems as though they're treating everyone as if they are trying to get one over on them. Which in customer service is sometimes the case, but you can not act like that towards the customer.

Somebody calls in to retrive their account number you give it to them, after you have verified the correct information of course.

did you tell customer to file complaint with fcc. also are you a dealer and doesnt your system show account info.

why dont you just look at your bills or online at your account. you can get your account number either way.

its not my account. it was a customers account that wanted to port their number. alltel knew the cust was leaving them and refused to give them the necessary info.

I seem to recall from an Alltel handset you can dial #acct or something like that and it will text you your account #...
