Sprint recently made their 4G available in my area and now Comcast is offering a just 4G plan for $30/month if your already a Comcast customer.
So I'm wondering how good is this 4G thing? đ
I'm currently using a Sprint 3G data card and see they want another $10/month to upgrade to 4G. đĄ
But back to my question particularly how good is in building penetration of 4G?
...
Guess not good enough, it's going back. Wouldn't penetrate the building I'd use it in and when it did work speed was 1.85 Mbps. đĄ
...
You set yourself up for failure. Wireless signals and buildings or thick object penetration don't quite mix.
I bet its a wonderful device in the park, in a car, or a building that has sufficient enough windows. But if your talking about a parking garage or skyscraper and your not by a window then probably not, you are better off with DSL or Cable.
...
Well hopefully Verizon's 700mhz spectrum will fix this building penetration problem. Analog tv certainly penetrated buildings just fine before that was shut off, and that used 700mhz, before it was shut off and auctioned off to Verizon (and ATT, but they dont' seem to actually have any intentions of USING their 700mhz spectrum).
...
Is that spectrum even authorized by the FCC for wireless use? That could have something to do with 'intentions'
...
Technically isnt ALL of the spectrum 'wireless' ? (with out wires...) đ¤Ŗ đ
...
Verizon's 700mhz will penetrate buildings just fine. And they claim to have 20-30 cities up and running using it by years end.
...
Nice to know. Because Sprint's/Comcast's didn't fair well inside.

They are two different techs, Wimax and LTE. I work for sprint and the down speeds vary, but the consensus is that LTE is faster. Our "4g" was built by clearwire, T-Mobiles upgraded 3g technology is just as fast on average.
...
and a birth control test after...
To bad I'm 3 towns past anywhere that's getting anything 4G soon âšī¸ Makes me a sad panda.
...
The 3G and 3G/4G Plan are the same price.
So why do they want another $10?
...
Most likely he's on the $50 3G plan that customers could get if they had simply everything...
...
sprint 4g is blazin fast 3g is 1-3 mbps and 4g is 7-10 mbps. so about 3-4 times faster...which is a helluva improvment.
...
BTW ... go compare the Sprint WiMAX 4G to what Comcast is offering. Looks the same doesnt it?!
...
lmao 4g is decent still not giving up my landline anytime soon but if you use a laptop often and need internet on the go or at work I highly recommend it. 4g is a lot faster then 3g from my own personal experience. đ
...
when sprint rolls out wimax 2, that is offically 4G according to standards, it has 10x the spectrum of LTE, so no bottle neck with heavy usage, and no future data caps
...
Clearwire rolls out the WiMax, not Sprint. Sprint does not own their 4G service.
And let's not promise no data caps, Clearwire is expected to start charging Sprint for heavy usage, and you can bet they'll pass it along.
...
we actually own half of them, we have a controlling interest in clearwire.

i think sprint owns 55% of clearwire shares.
