smart phone Vs pda based phones
by sunsampler    Dec 29, 2004, 4:24 PM
in the Techs & Trends forum

Hello folks, what's your take in the next 2 - 3 years for smart phone vs pda based phones capturing majority market share? Which will prevail? On a related note, Gartner estimates that smart phone shipment will overtake pdas (not pda-phones). Link -> http://informationweek.com/story/showArticle.j html?articleID=54200479 Price of the both types of phones is bound to go down with time. Personally, I prefer a PDA phone to a smart phone should the cost be lesser than what it is right now. What other factors do you think are keeping the PDA based phone at bay? Form factor? Features (Camera?) OS? Both types of equipment have essentially outsourced the UI to software 3rd party (Mico$oft, Symbian..) Do you think this will be the trend?

Verizon Driving Using Rearview Mirror
by kingfrog77    Feb 16, 2005, 8:39 PM

The bottom line for me is Verizon reps misrepresent roll over and paint gloom and doom pictures of ATT/Cingular merger. They are attempting to live and thrive based on two year old data and taking complete advantage of the uninformed customer with regard to current trends and network largess. Because they have a head start and large numbers of VErizon customers instead of Cingulars combo ATT/Cingular customer base they still have the "lemming advantage" Once the general public realizes Verizon is spewing old data without regard to current conditions, and actually looks at Cingular and GSM in general offferings in terms of phones, Data, pricing, netork, no roaming fess EVER on the largest network Cingular will prevail. I believe and hope as Cingular becomes more present in advertising and society in general thay will supass Verizon in net additions. That day is comming. A day any Verizon Rep only a year ago laughed at and ridiculed. Its only a matter of time and the trend is only beginning as evidant by Verizons relativly recent changes in many areas of there business, most causing a REDUCTION in potential or current revenue. Mark these words from a non employee of any communications company, just a lowly customer of mobile services.
