SMTP

Simple Mail Transfer Protocol

An Internet protocol for sending email messages. SMTP handles messages sent from a client (such as software on a PC or mobile device) to an email server. It also handles messages sent between email servers.

For end users, SMTP is a complement to POP or IMAP, protocols for downloading and receiving email messages.
