May 24, 2010, 10:34 AM by Philip Berne
Samsung today announced commercial availability of the Samsung Wave, the first phone running Samsung's own Bada smartphone OS. The Wave uses Samsung's TouchWIZ 3.0 interface and can run Samsung Apps, a branded application store also available on Samsung's Windows Phone and Symbian devices. The Wave features some high-end smartphone specs, including a WVGA Super AMOLED touchscreen and a 5 megapixel camera that can record video at 720p resolution. The phone can output 5.1 channel surround sound to a home theater, and can play a variety of video codecs, including DivX and H.264. The phone also uses Samsung's Dolfin browser for Web browsing, and supports multi-touch gestures for pinch to zoom capabilities. For networking, the phone can use 3G HSDPA networks or Wi-Fi up to 802.11n speeds. The phone is available today in Germany, France and the UK, and will rollout across the world this year. U.S. availability has not been announced.
