Sprint Accelerates 3G Plans with EV-DO
Jun 22, 2004, 3:39 PM by (staff)
Sprint today announced fast-track plans to add EV-DO high-speed data technology to its CDMA network. Upgrades will begin immediately, with service available in some areas by the end of the year, and remaining major metro areas to follow in 2005. EV-DO offers average data rates of 300-500 Kbps - up to 10 times faster than Sprint's current network. Sprint had orginally planned to skip EV-DO in favor of EV-DV technology. However, competitive presure from Verizon Wireless and delayed availability of EV-DV equipment likely contributed to the change of plans. Pricing, equipment, and specific services will be anounced in coming months.
