S60 (Symbian)
Does Series 60 support Touchscreen?
I'm a long time PalmOS user who's looking to pick up a combined PDA/mobile phone. I don't like the Treo or Titanium series (I prefer clamshell designs) and I'm looking to keep my options open. Symbian (Series 60 anyway) looks like it might be a good alternative, if there are plenty of apps out there and it's stable.

No, there is only three phones that i am aware of that supports touch screen.
SE P800, and the Palm Tungsten, and Kryocer 7135, they are both palm based.

I believe that the SPH-i500 also supports touchscreen, however it's also PalmOS, and CDMA to boot. âšī¸

No, Series 60 a smartphone OS. The way I see it, "smartphone" is a whole separate category from "PDA Phones". Palm OS and Pocket PC are full-on PDA OSes. Series 60 and Microsoft's Smartphone OS are smartphone OSes.
A PDA Phone has a touchscreen and is designed for people who would normally have a PDA, but don't want to carry two devices.
A smartphone is more like a regular phone: no touchscreen, regular keypad, durable enough to just throw in your pocket, etc. But it has a powerful OS for things like video recording and playback, MP3s, serious gaming, etc.

That strikes me as odd. Wasn't Symbian originally designed for the Psion, a PDA? And wasn't it only after the original company went bankrupt that Symbian went "open source"?

Series 60 does have Symbian "under the hood", but Series 60 is not the same thing as Symbian. UIQ is also driven by Symbian, and is pen-based. (UIQ is the platform used by the Sony Ericsson P800 and Motorola A920.)
The same thing is going on in the Windows camp. Windows CE 4.2 is the underlying OS for the 2003 version of both Pocket PC and MS Smartphone (both of which now bear the "Windows Mobile" moniker). One is pen-based and one is not.
So both Windows CE and Symbian are "underlying" OSes, not the finished product you see and use.
...and both can (and are) used to power pen-based platforms as well as non-pen platforms.
