Also, where are you located? USA, Europe, etc... what version of the phone is it? ie, does it have carrier branding? If so what carrier?

I have the myTouch with Tmobile.. The newest verizon I think it was 2.0. It is branded by Tmobile..

I highly recommend you start reading this forum. It is xda's sub forum for the Sapphire, aka MyTouch3G/Magic/what ever they called it. Try and read as much about the basics...

I started with ready the Cyanogen Wiki. It offers great information and the steps are really easy on a MT3G.

Yes and no... the new MyTouch3G with the 3.5mm audio jack has to be rooted and what not a totally different way than the original MyTouch3G, so it isn't as simple as reading the Wiki anymore.
