Hey, what's up guys? First post, quick question. Picked up the moto v710 last wed from verizon. They don't supply a data cable b/c thet want you to pay extra to email your pics. Motorola makes a compatatble USB data cable, but there's no software currently on the phone that would allow the use of this cable. Anyone aware if it's possible to download pics to and from the phone using this cable? Thanx alot.

If it were me I'd say screw the cable and use bluetooth to do your transfering. The phones from VZW should have the updated firmware that allows the BT to work unhindered. Moto has a version of Mobile Phone Tools that comes with BT adapter, but you should be able to use any BT adapter or BT enabled computer to do this.

If I knew anything about BT, I would. Plus, my thought was it'd be cheaper to use a $30 USB cable then spend the money on all the BT accessories, plus isn't that a subsribed charge as well? Sorry, new to the 21st century.

NOPE! BT is free as long as you're enabled. It is true however that the USB cable is cheaper than enabling your PC with Bluetooth, or even buying the $80 Mobile phone tools with the adapter. But the great thing about that adapter is that it doesn't only work with Moto products, if you decided to say add a BT wireless keyboard/mouse, printer, etc. it'd work with all those things too. If you get into it BT is pretty nifty stuff.

But on the other hand it IS nice to see someone who's not too lazy to plug a cable into his phone. 🤣

Uh, thanx, I think. So w/ this USB cable, you think I'll be able to use it to download to and from my pc even though VRZ's version dosen't have a current menu function that allows this?

hmmm....without having checked out the phone I wouldn't know for sure. However if it has a port and they make a cable for it I would assume that you should be able to do everything from syncing your data to transferring files with it.

I'm assuming that the cable comes w/ installation software. You think that'll transfer over to the phone once plugged in?

Where/when does one get one of these updated phones? The one I got on August 11 directly from Verizon doesn't have the BT update. And the Moto site promises that BT won't work:

"NOTE: Currently, the Motorola V710 phone distributed in North America supports Mobile Phone Tools only through a USB cable connection. A solution to support Mobile Phone Tools over a Bluetooth connection should be available later this year."

I already bought the software and cable (about $16 on eBay), but I really want the BT functionality, especially file/photo transfer.

I love this ****ing phone, don't get me wrong, but it is waaaaaay overhyped. Some say VRZ disabled many of the original functions.
SD, now ur saying Moto knew the BT wasn't going to work? WTF? Someone please clarify this and answer the original question of when is the updated software supposed to be made available.
BTW- I have emailed moto on more than one occasion asking if they were aware of any changes made to the phone by VRZ that inhibited any USB cable download or BT download capabilities and their response was "no" and that I was "mislead by false information."

A Motorola software support rep told me as early as August 12 that Bluetooh doesn't work yet for data, but that it WILL work. So they either knew before release or figured it out real fast after release. He said a software update would be out at the end of August/beginning of September, but all I can get in writing (on August 20) is "A solution will be available by November 2004." Not sure if that includes time for Verizon to test it.

I've found that PhoneTools with USB has limited capabilities. Transferring the phonebook works, but not images.

I needed a new phone anyway, so I'm trying to be happy with the speakerphone and Bluetooth headset, both of which are pretty cool, and forget about pictures for now so I can get on with my l...

No doubt this phone kicks ass by itself, sd. Just wish the software capabilities were working right. I'm a major newbie to this sort of thing and was hoping to be able to set the software up w/o a hitch. I'll keep dreamin' that in Nov, I'll be able to actually enjoy my photos on my pc w/o having to pay VRZ for ea friggin' pic sent. God I hate VRZ, calling area aside, they suck, big time 👿 .
BTW- There's gotta be some hacker software either out now or on it's way out that can reconfigure VRZ's software to allow pic downloading from phone to pc using the usb cable. I bet this was an original feature disabled by the good folks at VRZ.
