Thinking about buying the T610 or T616,,,,, Need some answers.
I have been doing research on both the T610 and T616. Thus far the ONLY differences I can see is that the T610 operates using GSM 900 vrs the T616's GSM is operating at 850.
1) Can someone tell me if one is "better" than the other?
The weird thing is that the T610's GSM is 900 (you would naturally think that a higher number is better). If 900 is better, then why is the T616 (a suspose upgrade to the T610) using only 850???????

2) When trying to find who I should purchase my new phone from, I have basicly two choices:
1st choice is to walk into my nearest Cingular dealer and purchase it for $200.00 (and then receive a $100.00 rebate). So after its all said ...

Honestly I can only help you with the first question. The T616 is not an upgrade to the T610. They are the same phone except that they are made to be used in different regions. Hope that helps a bit. 🙂

Yes, it does help. Honestly (in the back of my mind) I kinda had a feeling that there must be other differences than the MHz.

T616 has 850 Mhz GSM (all SE phones that end in 6 cover this band). I love this phone, got it yesterday. great voice performance

As already pointed out, the T616 is not an upgrade, it is simply a different version of the same phone (one that works in 850, one in 900). As far as most end users are concerned, there is nothing inherently superior about one frequency versus another. It is certainly not true that 'higher is better'. The difference in frequecy become issues of signal deflection, bandwidth, and couple of others, but these are largely transparent to end users (this is a drastic simplification). It does matter, however, as to what frequecies your carrier provides service on, for instance AT&T has implemented GSM 850 + 1900, the T616 does both of these frequencies, however the T610 does only 1900. T616 has alot of nice features ..very nice phone ..only bad things I don't like about it is that it only holds 2mb of memory, the screen gets smudged and scratched easily (maybe its because I don't have a leather case), the camera isn't so great and the screen isn't TFT ..which is kinda hard to see in direct sunlight. The phone sounds pretty good even with one bar. But it really depends on the signals (towers) and stuff like that. Most of the time I have good signals but with att gsm its been pretty bad in my basement. But if you're looking for a good phone with bluetooh, IR, great color, lots of features and not have to pay more than $100 for the phone ...then its pretty good. I really like it ..just don't really like the camera 🙄
