How do you unlock a phone?
Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I have no idea what people are talking about when they say to un-lock the phone, besides that I can use different company's sim cards...but HOW?

The major carriers worldwide place a SIM Lock on the phone this makes the phones limited to use that carriers network only.
When unlocking the 2 options are just to unlock the Sim so you can use any carrier card but all the software remains the same. The other is to Flash new software that can rebrand a phone say take a T-Mobile branded phone and Brand it Cingy, well all but the stickers.
Unlocking the Sim can be done by sending a text with the unlocking attachment to run on the phone, A Flash has to be done with software adn connected to a Box or PC.
I unlock mine as I use Sims form the UK.

The detail requires you have the software to flash the phone or the software to generate the code to unlock the phone without taking it to a dealer.
I have unlocked many phones a flashed them. It is not hard but you need the right equipment and software to get it done. I have equipmennt to flash adn unlock phones but not seen it on N75 or N95 yet I have the N70 and 73 software. The only other way would be a flash from Nokia and normally they only give that out to vendors.

I wonder if you can send it to Nokia service center and have them flash it with unlocked, unbranded software for a charge. I would rather get that over with before I started using it. I think I will call Nokia support monday morning. I will post their response.

It is likely that Cingular has at least a 90 day exclusive deal with Nokia. Nokia can not sell unbranded/unlocked N75s during that period. So Nokia can not unlock and unbrand your phone during that period.

there are also forums there where you can fin detailed instructions. i have unlocked 6340i's, 3320's, 6101's, 6102's and 6102i's with this software. and it's all free!
