Hey, I was wondering something. When your M1 is closed, can you slightly wiggle the top half from side to side. When I completely open my phone, it doesn't wiggle. I know this is kind of dumb, but I was wondering if my phone was defective. Thanks.
...
Yeah, its kind of annoying. I stopped at a sprint store, and apparently all m1s are like that. I wonder if sanyo warranty will cover it?
...
I doubt it if they are all like that it is not something that is broken.
...
so you're telling me that every one of these phones has a loose hinge? that's BS with how much they charge for that phone! 🙄
...
its not loose when its open and you don't even know it when its closed unless you wiglle it. Its not just hanging there swinging! 🙄
...
still seems unacceptable and annoying....i guess when i spend 350 on a phone i want it well-built.....i know i'm so hard to please 🙄

I have owned many sanyo clamshell phones, a few of which i still have. I have dismantled these phoes before, and seen the way the hinges work. It is a very simple, very reliable solution, however, when they are not tensioned in the "open" position, they are going to be a little loose. My 7500 has 12000 minutes on it in 4 months of use, and for as abused as it is, I am having no problems with the hinge. The 7400 hinge was similar, and the case itself broke before the hinge did, and 100,000 minutes later, the hinge still works great, however, it now belongs to my son, since a working hinge doesn't protect against warm bath water. Some of us are a little "anal" about our high-end handsets, but if we dwell on it enough, we will find flaws.

I dropped mine on accident. Still lucky since it landed on the grass, anyway my phone does,nt wiggle anymore but it's a little hard to open. Still the click when you open it sounds kinda broken so I'm going to go a get a new one since I have the Protection Plan fron Sprint 😢 🙂
...
this just annoys me a lot about this phone....is it so much to ask for a phone that is well built....which this one is clearly not.... 🙄
...
I agree. This phone is almost flawless. Yet this wiggly hinge is annoying as hell. Its fine when its fully open. I guess everyone is having the same problem. I'm going to call Sanyo customer service to see if they will send me a new one with a better hinge.
...
Or maybe i can physically open the phone and try to tighten the hinge? does that void the warranty?
...
I would not suggest opening the phone to try and tighten the hinges, because they have no adjustment. Opening this phone requires finesse, and an odd-ball tri-wing screwdriver. As I stated before, the hinges are constructed with a simple, yet reliable design. The drawback, is that they are a little loose when the clam is closed. Opening the phone will void your warranty as well.
...
It ain't no thing dude. The RAZR and Katana do the same thing. 😉
...
Tru Dat....I have seen cases crack before the hinges ever showed signs of decay...wait, they never did.
...
i have to disagree....the razr does not have loose hinges unless you pull the hell out of it...i know the M1 is superior in software, memory and speed etc....but why couldn't they build a phone that is better constructed? the loose hinge when the phone is shut drives me nuts!
