Motorola RAZR V3xx

The text message symbol on the internal and external screen came on the other day and wouldn't turn off. My first inclination was to reboot it which didn't work and then to reboot it after taking the battery out for a bit. It comes back. Someone else on this forum had a similar problem with the voice mail indication. Has anyone else had a similar problem or have any other ideas about fixing it? I know the problem really doesn't matter, but it is an annoyance.
