Apple iPhone
No 3G -- No Purchase!!
Just so disgusting to think i have to wait 2 yrs for version 2 of the iPhone or get a Euro version and see if it will work in the States.
I hope everyone buys and iPhone and then every complains how slow the internet is on EDGE, that will make my day.
BTW, even my kids Samsung Sync has 3g hsdpa and they cost me $25.00 plus $18.00ea for a 2gig microSD card for their music.
1) Don't forget the iphone has built in wifi. This phone launches the new at&t and the new at&t is more than just wireless, they're tv, landline, and DSL...
2) EDGE isn't so bad. at&t supposedly spent 50 million upgrading EDGE JUST for the iphone launch. Honestly I prefer my SonyEricsson's reliable EDGE 10 to my Samsung's spotty 3G. When it works it's faster than any vzw or sprint phone I've seen, heck my SYNC in EDGE is faster loading videos (yes it can do that 😉 )than my friends RAZRm. Hang ups and infrequent connection/coverage hamper at&t's 3G much more than the competitors. For now... 😛
I think it is so weird that Cingular/ATT would spend 50 Mil upgrading older technology and not put 3G in more locations instead...

And most of what you do see of EvDO is limited by the PDA phone's performance. When I tether my Verizon 6700 to my laptop in a good EvDO signal. I get near DSL speeds. (It was often faster than my DSL just not quite as consistent in it's speed.)

This is a dual review, one guy from the NY Times and the Wall Street Journal.
It seems iPhone gets huge marks in every category except internet speed!
"The biggest problem is the one that most predicted: the EDGE network Apple chose for the first iPhone. Unless you're in a Wi-Fi hot spot, Internet browsing is going to be painful, Pogue said. "The New York Times's home page takes 55 seconds to appear; Amazon.com, 100 seconds; Yahoo, two minutes. You almost ache for a dial-up modem," he wrote."
