1.Insurance is available. I was all set to buy this phone, jump ship from my provider to AT&T until I found out about the insurance problem, there is no way I can afford to buy another IPHONE if something happens to the one I purchase. 😢

2. I wasn't going to be part of the hype and decided to wait until Saturday to buy the phone, so I go to the AT&T store and that's when another odd thing happened. Yes they did have phones no problem, but they also had a line, not to buy the phone, but to RETURN it and it was a long line! I decided to go talk to some of these people on the line and ask them why they were returning the phone, most of the cons listed in the reviews by people were the reasons. But the one complaint that took me by s...

I'm not sure about if they will ever offer the insurance for that phone. They need to come up with separate insurance for the PDA's and smart phones etc. I can't imagine paying alot of money for a phone and then losing or dropping it.

I have been told you can get better insurance through your home owner/tenant policy but I have never looked into it personally. I have two blackberries from ATT and it's a constant cause of pain worrying about losing or breaking one of them. At least those cost next to nothing to buy. If I lose one I'll just cancel the contract and even with the $175 early termination fee it would be much cheaper then replacing it at full retail cost. That can't be said with the i-phone and why it is so much bigger a problem with that.

Loosing or having a IPHONE stolen would be my worst nightmare. My LG VX 7000 is old but I still carry insurance on it although I think I will drop it soon because the co pay for replacing the phone is around $50 which is about what the phone runs if you can find it still available at the VZ stores or on Ebay.

Once a phone reaches two years old it's not worth keeping the insurance. The extended waranty is no longer valid (they don't tell you that until you try and get it fixed) and as you said you can find one cheaper then paying the $50 deductible on the insurance policy.

I think it all depends though. How much is the phone at retail price? What about activation? Nothing wrong with paying $50 for a phone - at least you don't have to sign another contract.

Activation is free with VZ if you do it online from their website. You won't find an old phone like the 7000 available as a retail phone as they aren't being made anymore.

True. How would the insurance send a phone that is no longer made?

I'm just saying I would not just drop the insurance after 2 years. It's hard to get it back. Anyways see what all your options are before you decide.

I did check with our local VZ store just to see if the 7000 was still available if I lost this one, the answer, YES, they said they had a few new and a bunch remanufactured in stock and the replacement price would be $39. I think I will drop my insurance tomorrow and save 5 bucks a month.
