About the iphone - without the screen working, its useless I think? Has anyone's screen failed them?

I have read people who have said that they have a difficult time typing and to where they find it hard to keep the screen clean.
I find it terribly hard to believe that no one's screen has ever failed them, no matter how good this phone may be.
I would like to hear people's experience for screen's that may have failed them, I want to know just how durable it is. I am not just talking about malfunction, I am talking about after accidental drops, etc.
I imagine if the screen breaks, nothing works at all but face it, this is a cellphone, it is going to be in the elements, its going to get rained on, banged against somewhere, etc. but from the lack of hearing of any complete screen failures or malfunctions, my impression is that the ph...

Uh, that is an in depth thought process. Here is a simple answer. The screen is scratch resistant. It is not however, crash resistant. You break the screen you break the phone. simple.

just had a customer w/ a broken screen, phone still works but he can't talk on it b/c the glass cuts his face from the break. But the touch screen still works. But honestly, if you are dumb enough not to buy a protective cover or just have it in your pocket and not expect anything to happen to it, then you really should own a phone period, let alone an iphone

try youtubing "iphone tests" and watch some of the "droppings" and "scratching" tests. They're great.
