I need an honest answer- which is better, CDMA or GSM?

Could someone please give me an honest answer. Which Mobile technology is superior, CDMA or GSM? I am thinking of trying the IPhone but a little hesitant because of AT&T. I have been with Verizon for several years and must say I love the voice quality and have never had any issues. I welcome your responses.

If you ever want to use your phone outside the country GSM. If you don't care about that and you just want lightning fast internet go with CDMA. Rev A is great and with Sprint we'll have WiMAx out in the latter half of this year (hopefully)

Here is the reals... from a 5 year verizon customer that recently switched over to AT&T and GSM:

First off, overall the verizon and cdma network as far as signal strength and call clarity is HANDS DOWN BETTER, NO CONTEST - I can't stand when this is argued. Yeah you might get a signal somewhere you didn't with Verizon (and sometimes that is a deal breaker if that place is your home or work) but overall Verizons coverage is better. Less breakups in call and less dropped call. I leave less than an hour from NYC so my signal is decent most of the time.

Secondly, the iPhone is a much cooler device than the voyager or anything Verizon offers. Now I'm not saying it is better, or it can do more - because this might not be true. But as fa...

heh, an iPhone commercial if I've ever seen one.

The guy ask whether GSM is better than CMDA not whether he should buy an iPhone. Here's the answer.

CMDA and GSM is just two different network. It's all just depends on your preference. CMDA works just within the US while everywhere else in the world uses GSM. So, CMDA will of course be a little more reliable. Coming from a T-Mobile customer for 4 yrs, the coverage is not the best but it works great for me just as long as I don't go up into the mountains. GSM works great for people who needs their phone to be able to work wherever they go here or there internationally. So, whichever you decide is important.

Personally, I like GSM because I go abroad a lot and I like buying things abr...

What??? Virtual keyboard vs real buttons? Hands down, the Voyager wins. My iPhone's keyboard stopped responding when it got to the P and Q letters.

Plus, you cannot turn the iPhone sideways to make the keyboard longer, and thus easier to text on.

Voyager takes this round.

I read the post, YOU PAY ATTENTION

The sad part is I wanted to like the voyager so bad. I was a VZW customer, and extremely happy with the service (IT IS THE BEST OUT THERE)... but the phone just simply was a dud when compared to the iPhone.

Yes the voyager can maybe do everything the iPhone can do and more - but it is simply just not as impressive of a product overall. It just feels cheap, unresponsive and the display seems cluttered and not nearly as sharp... roll on top of that the infamous verizon GUI which can ruin any phone.

Im hoping in a few years when my contract is up, verizon will finally step it up and carry an attractive phone - I would have no problem switching back.

Haha, I must have been reading a different post, I thought there was a guy who said he liked the keyboard on the iphone because it was quiet in class.

Despite all of that, the voyager sucks. Poser. Verizon phones are garbage unless it's made by RIM.

I have owned both the iPhone and the Voyager, thus I felt like I was competent enough to compare them in the keyboard category. 😳

Anyways, today I ported back to AT&T and left my Voyager behind for a Moto Q9h.

Greyboy is pretty much on the money.

I left VZW for ATT after 12 years to get my iPhone. I have excellent reception no complaints about GSM, but yes I believe VZW's network is faster, stronger, etc. If I lived in a fringe place I doubt I would have done this now. I'm in a burb of NYC and have we have plenty of towers in the NY metro (NY, CT, NJ) area.

And yes, VZW has nothing remotely as cool and thie missing features are likely to appear over the next 3 to 12 months.

The SDK release will give Apple the chance to cull the best without investing their own money. They'll find the best ones that give the rest of the desired features and probably pay a royalty to incorporate them.

I was a customer of Verizon Worthless for over a decade and left them for AT&T before the iphone was released. As far as coverage goes I'd call it a toss up. I've found AT&T has coverage in places where Verizon didn't have any and vice versa. With any phone you should select your carrier based on who has the better coverage in the area where you are going to be using your phone.

As far as voice quality and clarity goes, after the switch I noticed an obvious difference. With both Verizon and AT&T I was using Motorola phones but the GSM network was much clearer, more like a landline phone. With Verizon it always sounded like the person I was talking to had a sock over the receiver. They never were as clear and static free as GSM. AT&...

There's your problem, why were you testing on Motorolas?

The network speeds are also much better on Verizon.
