autonomous GPS

one of the many things that attracted me to the Sanyo 7050 was it's "autonomous" GPS feature... it can pinpoint and readout user location even while not on the PCS network.

what troubles me, however, is that thus far all of my poking and prodding has shown no way that the user can EASILY and USEFULLY read this data. i have the option to output my GPS coordinates via NMEA protocol over USB or BlueTooth. great... just what i wanted to do... bring a laptop along with me while hiking if i wanna see where i am.

is there NO WAY that the user can simply enable the phone to display LAT/LONG coordinates right on the display panel? even if some aftermarket software product would do it i'd be interested.

still love the phone for other reaso...

I have the "Sprint Navigation" service on my phone, and one of the extra features is a simple compass that shows lat/long, direction of travel and speed.

I don't know if that feature, or an application similar to it, is or will be available for this phone.

There are some free software options

that are showing promise...
