Motorola Q Global / Q9h
GPS w/Google Maps & Microsoft Live
Has anyone else experienced the long delays to gain access to the GPS functionality on the Moto Q9h with these two programs? It seems it takes two to three minutes for the program to come back and say it can not communicate to the GPS immediate driver. Then you try it again and it works flawlessly. Is there a way to get it to work right away the first time?

I'm not actually sure about this just yet. I'm trying to find out if it's putting the GPS to a cold sleep and we're waiting on it to come out of it to find the satellites. As a baseline I've been comparing to my TomTom GPS and there are a couple of factors.
I have found that if i'm in the same point when I turn on and turn off my tom tom that it starts up with blazing speed. If i'm so much as down the block it can take up to 60 seconds to find the satellites. There is really no way for us to ever keep the phone in the same spot. It's in our pocket, in building, all over and trying to track the sky. I'm just throwing out a suggestion. Still trying to find out why it is taking so long to get it going.

I am having the same issue. I start up one, have it search - start the other, have it do the same - all sorts of combinations. It is taking longer than 2-3 minutes sometimes. Was using it (trying to) this week and it took 20 minutes to get it going. Then, right as I was getting down to the last three turns - it locked up the whole flippin phone. Awesome.

It's even slower with Telenav. And for some reason, going North it works pretty good, but on the same road coming back South, it can't lock on the satellites. It says too weak signal...... 👿
That's my biggest gripe on the phone currently. Any body have suggestions???
Also, does Telenav have to be subscribed to in order to use the gps, or will it work with google and live after my free 30 days of telenav runs out???? 😕

You don't have to subscribe to telenav to get the gps to work. It is not locked to telenav. Because the gps is internal, it will not pickup the satellites as quickly as a bluetooth external receiver.
I tend to do the following when using mine:
Start telenav and leave it running at the login screen (no i do not have a subscription nor plan on doing so);
Go to the homescreen, start google maps ->then track current location;
Next, start microsoft live and track current location.
It sounds like much, but it works for me everytime (internal gps). In fact, i just used it earlier this evening going to Boston Market.
Remember to try and give your q9 an open area like near a window and away from any obstructions. Give it a mi...

I haven't used the GPS on the Q9h yet. Since a lot of Telenav users have never used a dedicated GPS, I just wanted give some info about GPS devices in General (If you know this... just ignore me. I talk a lot)
GPS devices think they are in the last place they were before turned off. The further away from that spot they are when powered on, the more confused they are and the longer it takes for them to become re-oriented(cold boot). Every time I would get a new GPS model to demo for customers, it would take the GPS like 10+ minutes outside to figure out it wasn't in the West US but the "Midwest" near Cincinnati OH.

Remember GPS antenna is line of sight. That's the bad thing about having built in GPS antenna in phone. Phone or separate antenna need to be as close to front edge of dash & windshield as possible for clear line of sight. Tall trees, buildings, bad weather, overpasses, etc. all affect reception. Also depending on where you live Chicago versus Miami will determine which direction GPS picks up best, depending on sat positions & yearly season.( Earth tilt) That's why I have phone without GPS antenna & use external antenna. Can place antenna @ best reception location & phone wherever I please. 😎
