questions about the curve from ones who own it
i have a couple of questions for you curve owners.... 1- can you view word, excel, powerpoint, and pdf attachments in an email 2-can you multi task like text while on a call and if you are on the web you can still recieve a call 3- can you edit attachments 4-can you save files to the micro sd. and finally how good is the phone all around 🙂 this would be my 1st smartphone...... oh and i cant forget how good is the battery life? thats real important to me.... thanks oh and 1 more thing lol 🙂 does it come with AOL, YAHOO, and MSN Messenger built in.... thanks 🙂

I don't own the phone, but I will on Mon when mine arrives 🙂 I will post an update to this when I get it and have tried all of those things. I can answer one of those questions though. It does not come with Yahoo!, AOL (AIM), or MSN yet. However, in mide June, they are releaseing a downloadable IM Client for the blackberry that will give you access to all those IM apps. It will use text messages though, and not data to IM people. Hope that helps, and I will post more once I get my curve and can try some stuff out.

3. No. The attachments are viewable only. Reason: They are not really stored on your device. They are basically "images" you are viewing from the server.
4. Yes, you can save files to the card but they are mainly for your pictures, music and video. No programs or email attachments are installed to saved to the card.
5. Battery life is up to par with the lastest blackberries like 8700. In fact, it uses the same battery. However, you must keep in mind that YMMV since it will depend on how much you use the video and music player, the camera, web surf...etc. Even with heavy use I've only been able to use about 2 fifth's of the battery power in a full ...

I feel silly asking this... how exactly do you transfer the files to the device to view the PDFs, DOCs, and XLSs?

I can't even view XLS files (excel spreadsheets)... i thought i could? is there an app i can download to view them?

There are some third party applications that you can get to view and edit Word and Excel docs on your blackberry. Check out Handango.com.

I've never used JiveTalk, I use IM+. Is JiveTalk better?
IM+ supports ICQ, AOL, MSN, Yahoo, Jabber, Google Talk, MySpace and Translator.
BUT... sometimes it just won't find the network and doesn't log me in. Then, it keeps retrying until the battery pretty much dies (unless I turn it off).

I don't have all the answers to your questions about what services it supports although I don't think as many as you listed with IM+. I suggest you check out www.beejive.com for the specs. I can tell you that I have used it since the first beta release and it's been extremely stable much easier on the batter life than IM+.
It has a very clean interface and is easy to setup and use. They offer a 30 trial as well.

You can actually read them as attachments from your email. So, if you need to keep an attachment handy, simply mail a copy of it to yourself and put that message in your Saved folder. You can then view it whenever you like plus it doesn't take up memory space on your device since the attachment is actually stored on your mail server and not the device. (That has some pro's and con's for some but it's fine for the times your away from your laptop or PC.)
I must say that the Curve handles viewing Excel attachments much better than blackberries used to.
