BlackBerry Curve 8300
Considering taking back my Nokia N75 and trading for a Curve
Got the Nokia N75 last week, having a few issues as are many other users. I'm looking for a phone with good reception, personal email, calendar, camera, music, and contacts/address book that includes addresses. I live in a 3G area, but N75 drops calls when you leave a 3G area. Prior to the N75, I had a Treo 700W (verizon)that locked up constantly.
I've never owned a Blackberry but the curve sounds like it would fit my needs.
Any suggestions or comments?

Trade for the curve and you won't be disappointed. This phone rocks as far as its organizational capabilities and media capabilities go! I have a $150 pair of headphones, and when plugged in to the Curve, it really pushes them! They're so loud, great bass, awesome sound quality, and on the highest volume its almost intolerable! This phone is killer, I highly recommend it. My eyes hurt because I haven't stopped playing with the phone for a good 12 hours hahaha

Although 3G may be nice, I have not enjoyed my experiances with 3G smartphones. Unless you are wanting a high speed tethering device, EDGE on the blackberry is more than sufficient for email and web browsing.
The main problem with 3G smartphones is battery life. I haven't had one device that would make it two full days (some less than one) without a charge. The 3G just sucks battery life like a 12 cylider engine. Again, this isn't sour grapes and I do look forward to seeing a GSM blackberry with 3G and will probably be first in line to get it. It would be a nice ADDITION to the Curve, but it's certanly not enough to pass on this RIMarkable device. :-)

I have one more question for you, that I can't seen to get answered at the ATT phone store near me. If you set an appointment or a "to do" item, does it show up on your home screen as a reminder until you dismiss? Or do you have to go into calendar to see upcoming appt, etc. I previously had a treo and that is one thing I liked and got very used to. Thanks for sharing!

If you set an alarm reminder for the appointment or todo item, a popup window will give you a reminder on the homescreen. This will come up for however many days, hours, or minutes in advance your set the reminder. There is also a Theme on the device that will show you pending appointments right on the homescreen as well.

I have only used the Calendar, but when an appointment comes up it pops up on whatever screen you are in, reminding you of the event. You can Snooze or Dismiss, and times for how early the reminder goes off or how long you snooze is configurable. (It behaves like you would expect)

I have had an BB 8700 for about 1.5 years. This Curve is the best "phone" I have seen or used from RIM. The call quality is much better than the 8700 or the 8800 (which I tried) BB's are obviously the best email platform, and the calendar/address book is also top notch. I sync to Outlook, which makes it seemless. This device now delivers a phone to match the rest of the feature, in a great form factor. Reception seems as good, maybe slightly better than the 8700, and I have not had much of a problem with dropped calls in general. Finally, I am really surprised how well the sound quality is from the media player - top notch.

got the N75 myself and hated it, which was disappointing since i am (was?) such a lover of nokia phones. i got a curve two days later and am SO glad i decided to send the N75 back.
the web browsing and push email are fast and convenient, and even the camera on the curve takes better pictures. add in the full qwerty keyboard and the headphone jack and you have a real winner.

I too was really disapointed in Nokia's N75. I've always been a fan of Nokia as well and waited anxiously for months to get the N75. Although it's not a "bad" phone by comparson to other makers, it was a let down by Nokia's standards.
It did work out though. I am a blackberry addict and the Curve is just the best ever.

Thanks for your input. Have you used a blackberry before? Before the N75 I had a treo 700w (verizon), will I be able to transition to blackberry menu's etc quickly?

This is my first Blackberry, and I am SO glad I made the switch. I was a die-hard Nokia owner and the thought of going to Samsung or (especially) Moto really bummed me out.
As for learning how to use it... It's a snap. You can move the icons around and hide unused programs with ease. Plus, I've already downloaded some really neat apps for free.
If you need support, I actually found AT&T's Blackberry folks pretty helpful. And if they can't figure out your problem, they'll transfer you over to RIM to get things squared away.
