I'm considering unbranding this phone. If anyone has already done this I have a couple of questions.
The main reason I'm gonna do this is because I want to be able to set those 'cool' lights shooting out of the side of this thing to a different color. AT&t set them to green which doesn't match anything whatsoever on the phone. Why freakin green? Orange maybe to match the keys or something, but green? Anyway, will unbranding to original firmware make this happen?
I don't want to lose the easy tranfer of music using windows media player though, will it still sync so easily if I undbrand it.
Thanks for the time guys.

Unbranding brings back the shortcut key and allows 3rd party apps, no ringtone limit and orginal software. I did it last night and it only took 20minutes using the wontonserver: http://www.wotanserver.com/en/
Much better phone without the at&t stuff.

Can you use 3rd party Java apps, like Gmail mobile, on this phone?
...
Yes! they run really fast too! Opera mini 4 v3 is better than safari on the iphone. Plus it is quick. Also you don't have to keep granting permission to get internet access for the unbranded phone. I have installed, google maps, gmail, miniopera browser. If you don't have the shortcut key then this phone sucks. You must have debrand.

Thanks.
Can you use Gmail without unbranding?
...
Yes but it will ask you every single time if you want to access media net. This is the same for Opera mini, google maps, and any application that needs to access the internet. When you go to permissions you cannont change "ask always" to "ask once". On the unbranded version you can switch permissions which gives you total control to use 3rd party applications without any complications. Also you get access to the shortcut key. On the branded version the there is no shortcut key, it just starts media net which is annoying. The unbranded version gives you access to the shortcut key which is the true essence of this particular phone.

Is this within the limits of the contract? Just wondering! Is there any risk involved?
...
no. simply because you are only unbranding and not unlocking the phone.

Welp, I unbranded the little guy last night. Took a couple hours, lol, first time trying to unbrand a phone.
Much better phone now. Shortcut key is the way to go, it's a must have. I was getting irritated going through all the menus to find something.
Lost the ringer volume on the side keys, thought this was a bad deal until I found out that if you hold one of them in you now get the voicedial. Ringer volume was sent to the shortcut key. Good deal.
My lights arent green anymore, only with the walkman, don't think I'll be able to change that one though.
Only got two games, but they are the full versions at least. I played sims 2 for a couple hours last night when I had better things to do, and my guy kept dying of hunger anyway, bec...

Wotan.com, whatever the first reply to my post said, thats where to go. Sorry bout that.

That sounds great.
Can you "rebrand" the phone if something goes wrong? (ie is it hardware or software?)
And what's the story with The Sims on a "branded" phone?
...
well, the way I understand it is that it's not unlocked, just unbranded, so the at&t warranty is still effective. It won't work if you put a t mobile sim in it.
The sims is just a game that came with the unbranded one.

since working @ att warranty dept any so called "unapproved modification" can void ur warranty & tampering w/ software programmed in phn can be considerd a good possibility a reason to be charged an oow fee if we process a warranty exchange.. 😈

Hmmm, interesting, been eyeing phones to buy w/my upgrade. Have had an LGCU320, and couldn't be happier, but the Shine is just way too overcosted....
So, I'm reading the chat about "unbranding" the phone, and I'm intrigued. Not aware this type of thing could be done. I've seen the positives listed about this, but what happens "negative" to the phone?
Can I get this phone through AT&T and then unbrand it, or do I have to buy it through a third party pre-unbranded?
Basically, if someone could spell this out in newb terms, I'd appreciate it. :-)

How much does it cost to unbrand?
Did any of you notice a slowdown in operating speed after debranding? I noticed this after I debranded my w810i, which is basically the same phone. I used www.davinciteam.com to debrand.

I just upgraded my phone 2 weeks ago from the w600i.
When you say that there is no ringtone limit, are you referring to the crappy new 600kb limit at&t now places on ringtone size?
