Because Verizon and Sprint would bog the phone down with their own User Interface.

The GSM market is 10x larger than the CDMA market. Plus a lot of the CDMA market is bogged down with rules and restrictions as well as Qualcomm licensing fees.

really, i don't have a problem with 3g dropping to 2g anymore in my market on any of my umts handsets.

I guess it just depends on the 3G coverage where you live, I live in Las Vegas, and I understand 3G coverage here is good.
