Google Maps says that when you fire it up as a warning because it is a very data intensive application. Are you seeing that warning from Google Maps, or are you seeing an error message of some sort from Windows?

Also, the first time you use the GPS on the phone it takes a LONG time for it to acquire the satellites. It could take 10 minutes. It helps a lot if you run QuickGPS (which is included on the phone) first, but even then it will probably take 5 minutes for everything to synchronize. After the first time it is much faster. (A minute or two without Quick GPS, or about 30 seconds with it.)

And, of course, you need to be outdoors for GPS to work well. Since you mentioned having a wifi signal it sounds like you might be trying ...

I realize the Tilt's GPS unit is internal, but here are some tweaks that I had to make to my WM5 device to get Google Maps Mobile to work; perhaps you need to point GMM to whichever "port" the GPS unit is using.

===================

STEP ONE

===================

GMM uses the WM5 GPS "Intermediate Driver" API. The settings for this API are configured using a control panel applet that Smartphones lack ( MS promises an addon soon ). As such, you cannot configure GMM to use a particular comm port. The functionality however exists in WM5 Smartphone amd can be manually enabled using a registry editor as follows...

First setup a comm port for your Bluetooth GPS devices as usual:

Start/Settings/Connections/Bluetooth.

I was outside for a while yesterday and downloaded the file again and started from the beginning. The farthest I got was a page full of little flags with an arrow that changed directions when I faced another direction. No map or any other info appeared.

As far as the instructions above, I have WM6 on my tilt. Should I still make these adjustments? I have to tell you that they look kind of intimidating to me!

That's very weird. A page full of little flags doesn't sound familiar to me in any part of the application.

A page full of little icons that are made up of two half-circle arrows pointing at each other to form a full circle (basically a grey version of the icon used for Active Sync) would indicate that you didn't have an internet connection and so Google Maps couldn't download any maps.

Or... if you searched for something common like, say, Starbucks... you might get a page full of little red flags. And again in this case, the lack of a map in the background would indicate that for whatever reason Google Maps couldn't access the internet.

As for the instructions posted... unless you're pretty adept at making modifications to the Wi...

I know this sounds silly, but, could you be zoomed-in too close?
