Nokia N95 8GB

I have been led to believe that the N95 has an independent GPS system - that is independent from the provider's transmission towers. Quick look at the glossary section of this forum, shows two types of GPS systems. In both cases it says that a signal from a tower, or towers, is necessary for the GPS to work.

Does the N95 have an independent GPS chip that works directly with the satellites, or does it still need a signal from a tower in order to work?
