"New" line by "new" design team?

Apparently there was some blogging on this phone a month ago, but I'm not that hardcore in following phones to notice the 2135 until it got posted here.

A site mentioned that this was not actually manufactured by Nokia: is this just continuing in the vein of the Pantech-made phones (6305i and 6315i) on Verizon? Sources, info, anyone?

Phones like the 6305, 6215 and 6315 were phones designed completely by other companies like Pantech. Even the software is not Nokia's, it's just tweaked a bit to look and work a little more like a Nokia.

The 2135 was designed by Nokia. You can expect it to work and perform more like a Nokia.

Nokia didn't actually manufacture it, but technically they outsource manufacturing for all kinds of phones. Apple doesn't actually manufacture the iPhone, either, and Palm certainly doesn't manufacture Treos. What's important is who designs and engineers it, and Nokia designed the 2135.

Nokia didn't have any team at all to design CDMA phones when the 6305, 6215 and 6315 were being planned. That's why they had to outsource it.

Ah, cool. Thanks for the clarification.

Now it's just time to hope for them to conjure up a CDMA phone with Symbian on it? 🤣 With all of the "open access" from Sprint and Verizon ideally going on, that would be cool, even though I've never used S60...
