Please tell me it's different now
I have an 8700g, which I'm coming to like a lot (particularly thanks to the Google apps). But I have one major gripe: if you're cut off from the network, you're screwed. I was in the Sears Tower for a meeting yesterday, which you'd think would have decent coverage, but it doesn't. I wanted to pull up an e-mail and I could only get the very first part of it - since I had no network connection, I was dead in the water. My Dash (WM5) would pull down as many megabytes of data as it took to read the full message, including attachments, so I never had a problem. With my BB, I have to retrieve the same message many times because it doesn't retain any of the data. What a bad setup. I'm on BIS and version 4.2.1.107.
So does the 8320 have a better ...

If you're using th 8320 (The T-Mobile version of the Curve) you can connect to a wi-fi connection (where available) and use it for a service boost and that will give you access to your emails. I would imagine that somewhere in the Sears Tower there is a wi-fi network you can connect to.

Btw, the feature I'm speaking of is called T-Mobile's HotSpot@Home service.

That's no good - what if I'm in the subway or on a plane or just somewhere I can't get a network... with ANY BB you're saying I can only see the first few kilobytes of any e-mail?
...
I didn't say that. You can get full emails on Blackberrys and by some the blackberry is considered to be THE definitive email phone. I'm not sure why you could only get the first few kilobytes on yours, but that's definitely not normal.
Now, service where you have no network and no hot-spot is a different thing all together. No phone can just magically create service where there is none, it has to connect to a tower from somewhere that tower broadcasts. Some phones do get better reception than others but that's on a purely phone to phone basis.

I agree about getting messages when there's no signal - I'm talking about simply viewing messages that you've already viewed... my 8700g purges all but the first few k of messages after a few hours, so if I want to re-read something, I have to have a network connection. Seems simple to retain the message onces it's downloaded.
I'm currently using an 8700G and it's my second BB. Both retrieve the first few k of each message and that's it. If I want to read more, I have to scroll to the bottom of the message and it will automatically start pulling in more, but if I go back to that message a day later, what it previously downloaded is gone; I have to go through the whole process again, for each message.
The worst part is some messages, it...

I'm not sure. I've only ever used the Pearl personally and I never really emailed on it... But my manager carries a Curve and he assures me that the Curve doesn't do that to him.
