A good alternative to the Vu could be the Samsung Eternity, another all-touchscreen phone. Eternity steps up to a 3mp camera, built in GPS, proximity sensor (turn the phone sideways when typing and auto-makes into full qwerty keyboard), and widget bar.
If you don't add the unl. data plan (which has just been lowered by AT&T if you have an unl. text package), then you would be missing out on Cellular Video, access to Weather forecasts, e-mail, news clips, and the ability to look up information you want to know right then and there.
