i have hacked iphones and ipod touches. im sure this phone will be nice. im not all for the iphone (especially with att network) but bottom line the iphone is tough to beat.
...
wow, i am an avid reader of phonescoop and it suprises me at the uneducated attempts people make on explaining one is better than the other. If you have an opinion that is fine but dont try and argue facts otherwise. There is not a phone that will be the next "iPhone killer" except if made by apple. The instinct is the "glyde killer" at best. The instinct is going to be a decent touchscreen media phone, and as of right now has faster data... no corporation will sit back and get bagged for something they can fix. att will join the speed game soon, bet on that and once the next gen iPhone has "the network to back it up" you might as well become a customer because att will be the monopoly it used to be.
...
Cool equipment doesn't matter to me. I used the iPhone and found it cumbersome and not ergo dynamic; I like buttons. Weight and size was also unconfortable and having to send it back to Apple for a battery was VERY inconvenient. Who's brain child was that. Most likely that paranoid Jobs. What matters is the network. I use both and discoved ATT is at least a year behind S & VZ respectively in G3 coverage. S has G4 to market, ATT, VZ, TM, VOD G4 still applying for applications to begin design. I like S and CS is getting better. Hey everybody's CS has bumps when you farm it out to third parties. At least S is doing something.
...
Besides having to send the phone to get a replacement battery. The phone can't get insurance... that is madness
...
You think that People are uneducated on here but you seem to forget that ATT needs to continually sell off parts of themselves to stay in business and stay within the laws of the Federal Government.
...
And that has got to do what with the topic on hand? I swear, some of the posters must be no older than 13.
...
WOW can we say apple fanboy?
if th instinct will not be the iphone killer i know htc can make it, practically any comapnay can. the iphone is not all that
i mean a thermal touch screen? they really did not think that one through. and only activated by itunes? puhlease.
i nkow a windows device can be way better than the iphone so can pal and rim.
i bet if rim decides to make an iphone killer
touch screen, that puppy will sell till the end if time.
If you are an apple fan, great, i like thier pc's but if they opened thier hardware to outside companies you would have a great market on macpc's stuff like no other.
but who has the market on that? windows or non apple based pc's. this is just like the foriegn vs domestic or honda vs e...
(continues)
...
Actually, Apple HAS opened their hardware to outside companies. It's called virtualizing. You can run Windows, Linux, Abuntu, and any other PC OS with VMWare. They allow you to run multiple machines simultaneously while maintaining stability and security.
...
i forgot to add this only works on Macs with an Intel chip.
...
Apparently you know nothing of EVDO networks vs EDGE... regardless if you are with verizon or sprint hands down you are going to get more reliable connections and faster speeds than EDGE mainly due to protocals and it is easier to build upon.
Damn ATT and Iphone nut riders.
...
Nothing wrong with Sprint's cell/data service. Customer Service is a different issue, but Dan Hesse is making things right... it has gotten a lot better since he has taken over. Don't bash Sprint as a former user because things will, and always do change.
...
is that not tha same thing they said when Cingular bought the name ATT? alotr of customers complained that service when down hill after "att bought cingular".
...
Umm.. Service as in reception? because that's 100% false. Since AT&T took back over Cingular, they've been buying up local companies in order to increase their reception and reliability.
...
Thus the basis for the its appeal...

First of all, there's this:
http://gizmodo.com/390692/sprint-keeps-up-iphone-bas ... »Then there's the screen on the iPhone, which, as has been pointed out, is larger & higher resolutioned, not to mention the
excellent video player & software integration.
If you're looking purely at data speed, or at features like removable battery and hotswappable memory, than I can see how you might say the Instinct is better. But the difference is subjective, at best.
And I think Gizmodo has it right: comparing the iPhone of 2007 to the Instinct is a rigged game, but the iPhone 2.0 (software & hardware) will be hands down superior in far more respects than the Instinct.
...
Your "subjective" comment is contradicting, you reference a link to a web site where just about all of the Instinct/Iphone editorials have been biased in favor of the iphone. Those editorials represent the opinion of one person. I would call THAT subjective.
I have heard of serious issues with the iphones screen, 1) Some folks have had unresponsive screens 2) The screen is unresponsive when wearing gloves. 3) Screen does not respond to a stylus. 4) In cold weather the screen is unresponsive.
As for software, my understanding is that the new iphone will basically be running the same OS as iphone 1.0 with a few tweaks. So the comparisons are valid. I think Sprint knows this as well, why else would they compare the Instinct to the 1st iph...

the iphone has an electrostatic screen, so gloves would more then likely effect the screen, just as fingernails or stylus get no response... the screen is not pressure sensetive. i havent used one in cold weather (im in florida, nothin cold about that lol)... the iphone def. has flaws and the insticts im sure will blow the iphone away with certain features, and att will never be as fast as sprint. take everything with a grain of salt

This is by far no iphone killer... I've used the phone and I'm unimpressed, the user interface is just not fluid... I've also had a few issues of delayed response and freezing when multi tasking i.e. receiving a phone call while browsing email etc. I don't even own an iphone and by far a fanboy before ppl start to get all offended by it IS a hard handset to beat.
...
By your comments I question whether in fact you have used the Instinct, I haven't found one review (CNET, Phonedog, Engadget, etc.) that said what you're posting. Everyone I know who was able to demo the device (me included) said the UI was very fluid.
...
It's funny how someone has already used the Instinct but it hasnt even been released to Dealers, Corporate or Indirect alike, to test out. If you were a corp. Rep then you wouldnt be posting on here.

The iphone does have flaws, true, and thats why LG and Samsung are trying so hard to top it. But the Instinct will be almost identical to the Vu and surely similar quality. Definately no iphone "killer"...
...
waht Vu not an iphone killer?
please, VU has TV live vhf/uhf tv! (certain marktes of course)
full mms, youtube ready, mp3 compatible.
that is 4 things better than the iphone. and dont forget the touch screen. haptic, non thermal.

Please re-read and check for spelling mistakes before submitting your comments, they are very hard to read.

the wearing gloves thing is untrue i ride a motorcycle and i where thick leather gloves sometimes with even an additional liners in them and it works just fine.

good thank you i can knock that off my list from the iphone can'ts

Wow at the vast amounts of ignorant Sprint fans and employees. I honestly applaud all of you trying to give your downward spiraling of a company a lift up. Lets face some facts here, 1) Websites making the comparison that the iphone is better software wise to the instinct are not biased. It really flows together better than anything Sprint developers and Samsung had put together. 2) Since the take over of at&t over Cingular the network has been completely revamped with buyouts of smaller companies rollouts of HSDPA and soon to be HSPA(which adds better upload speeds for businesses as well as the downlink). 3) Regardless of where you have your sources on network footprint, Sprint has a much smaller network footprint being that it's CDMA...

Sprint is not the number two carrier in terms of subscribers simply because when ATT and Cingular made the merger, it gave them over twice the subscribers of Sprint. And Nextel only gave Sprint 13 million customers when Sprint already only had 31 million. Also, come on, I don't think that there will be another phone that is gonna have people line up to buy it other than an iPhone. No one can compete with Apples marketing and the consumers ability to be drawn to a brand name other than researching a product to see which is better for them and honestly most people buy it because its an all-touch screen phone and not for the features that it has. I've seen so many people that have the iPhone that don't even know all of the features that it ...

Its not just hardware. The phone can be covered in diamonds but if the software suck then that makes the phone no good.
The software makes the phone and hands down the iPhone has a far superior, more elegant, and simpler user interface than any other mobile phone out there, even that of the Instinct.

After seeing the Instinct first-hand and having some time to check-out the features and comparing it to my first-hand experience with some friends' 1st gen iPhone's I think it's a bit bold to say that this phone is better then the iPhone. Personally I prefer the 1st gen. iPhone over the Instinct. The part I disklike is Apple's control over the actual phone pricing and lack of (IMHO) "fairly-priced" rate plans (including MORE then 200 SMS Messages) for the iPhone. Until the 2nd gen. iPhone is actually released, the price-plans are announced, and I have a chance to see the device for myself, I will not say it's "better" or "worse" then any other device of this type. One of the features I think the 1st gen. iPhone DOES lack is the option to tak...

The Instinct kills the new iPhone as well. ๐ New iPhone still lacks video, MMS, voice support, and when you look at the difference between Sprints Rev A map compared to AT&Ts 3G its night and day. Plus the plans available to Sprint customers is way better $99 bucks for everything. I'm paying $99 bucks a month on AT&T for 900 minutes, unlimited text, and unlimited data for the iPhone. I for one will be breaking my contract with AT&T to get the new Instinct and finally have a phone that does way more than my iPhone ever will. ๐
...
has anyone noticed the new posted on engadgetmobile today, i the NEW 3G IPHONE lacks numerous features included with the instinct. No video camera, no OTA music downloads, it has navigation but apple locked the 3rd party apps down to not include real time guidance, and the list goes on, I mean the instinct is no iphone but it still has more features the the new iphone. Most people will still get the iphone because of it name, but if they were smart, they would review the features and get their moneys worth and more with the Instinct

I work for sprint here in lenexa,ks and i haven't been to excited about this phone..its like we have it as our major phone when verizon has it and then the iphone killer...wow..why cudnt it jus be our phone..jus a phone...with the xtra sprint features is pretty much wut u get, cus the phone itself is simple and plane...
i like verizons version cus it has the full flip out keyboard..and then the lg vu, which is the same phone as the instinct and the one verizon has....im not impressed with this phone its ok. but not summin im willing to jump from htc or palm to samsung...i'll jus wait for the diamond to get over here.it more worth the money..
...
i deff, agree with you on that, i can do so much more with my wm/touch phone and will more than likely stay with wm/touchdiamond, but i was just noticing how much the iphone lacks and the instinct has
...
Well, lets put it this way, lets see how many people from AT&T port over to Sprint get the Instinct vs how many people using Sprint port over to AT&T to get the iPhone 3g? Any bet takers?
...
oh i deff agree with you, no doubt, but lets be honest which phone has the most features for the price. the iphone is gonna sell only because of it name, i people werent so stuck on names and fads, they would take a look at what they are actually buying. but some people are either in denial or to stuck on apple/att that they cant see whats actually better, can you?
...
Actually, yes. I would also like to see the SE Xperia, HTC Touch Pro, Samsung i900, and BB Bold. Before I get a new iPhone.
You can also throw in some E series Nokia with a kb and US HSDPA.
...
i dont know to much about the iphone, its the 1st of it kinds and now everybody wants to take it out cus of its success..but when it comes down to it. the insinct is still a pretty lame phone phone but with all the xtra stuff sprint has loaded onto it makes the difference. i think the instinct is the instinct and the iphone is the iphone just let them be. and where talking about apple compared to samsung...apple can do whatever they want because they have the money and the technology. the iphone comes with all its features from apple not ATT...the instinct is going to ba good phone because of sprint if on any other network probably wudnt work as well. the iphone as u can see can b the iphone on any network. and i bet apple can care less of...

i can tell u right now that the instinct will not be just another phone. there are no new plans for any other touch screens since verizon came out with two and the diamond will be cool but lets face it man that things price will shy people away from it. i wont say that this phone will be ground breaking but i can say that it will make i big mark in the market and sprint will shooot back up to the tope two contenders. plus with the complaints ive heard from the att service since the merger, i can say for a fact sprint will be a nice replacement.
...
dude there is no way ur that dumb. im sorry man but the instinct is nowhere near the vu or the glyde man. its a NEW and completely exclusive fone for sprint. this phone has never seen the light of day in the US until the 20th of this month.i work in the sprint store and I am a iphone user so no bias coming from me but i will say this, i love my i phone but i have had the pleasure of using the new instinct from my regional manager whom got it on the 10th. dont ask how, i dont know, but it is nothing like it is explained by some people here. the screen is responsive the multitasking is very efficient and the resolution is amazing and i HAVE the iphone so i compared. i luv iphone but i really do believe i will be switching to this phone once it...

i've played with the phone and like i said its a good phone. but its not the phones that sells its all the sprint extra added features. you take all that away and what do you have...nothing.
...
same with the iphone. and with sprints 99 plan for everything then u got everything for much less than u would if u have the iphone cuz trust me i have it and im paying more than that to have it. i mean if u want a resriction for minutes then the the basic from att for the ihpone but lets face it its a phone that is made for calling and the instinct is awesome plus the 99.99 simply everything plan just cannot be beat.
...
Good points. Especially the one about AT&T's 3G coverage. I was just looing at their coverage map the other day wondering how many millions of people are going to buy the new iphone only to find they can't take advantage of the 3G capabilities.
I personally think when comparing it to the iphone, the Instinct doesn't measure up in overall slickness and fluidity, but wins out on features. You can just do more with it. It's classic style vs. substance if you ask me.
...
annyoing...well then dont get the iphone, duh! I love the iphone though...its great, the instincts cool though, just a bad signal but it depends where you live....i still love my iphone pahahaha!

finally someone with an iphone that isnt bias...you can love a phone but give credit where credit is due when its due...

give credit where credit is due huh? can your instinct camera have zoom? some sprint employees say no. some special phone the instinct is lol. even the free camera phones zoom

Spring always tries to out do out do other carries in there phones but FALL WAY SHORT in there COVERAGE .. Point Blank... Any phone they make isn't a phone it's a DEVICE..

imma need you to learn to spell SPRINT just as its named...its not a season, just a company...

I think that it's funny that you were chastising him for spelling SPRINT incorrectly, yet you invented a word(imma), and you also failed to use proper punctuation(its).

Ummm, you need to be tolerable of typo's that is your problem not mine. Take your thin skin comments back to SPRINT..

I don't need it to cover every square inch of the Americas, I just need it to cover where I travel to, which Sprint does for me. I don't care about your " it's the coverage" argument.

Yeah! Who need coverage everywhere and competent customer service!? Just get Sprint!!
...
ok, first of all, Sprint has more 3G voice and data coverage than AT&T and T-mobile (Verizon's got us all beat). I have no problem getting reception anywhere that I've gone or lived with my sprint phones and I've had Sprint for 6 years. Now maybe back in 2000, yes, they had some coverage issues but remember, Sprint, just like T-mobile started their company and built it from the ground up instead of just buying out other smaller companies like AT&T and Verizon did to make their networks larger. Nowadays, everyone has pretty much the same coverage nationwide in most traveled and metropolitan areas. The only difference now is the technology that they use which IMO, CDMA is better.
...
Same Coverage with all the companies these days ? LOL
What planet are you from ? I don't think you have a clue in what you are talking about. If you are trying to justify that Spint covers the same area's that ATT and Verizon do you are misinformed. You are making a general statement. Again do your homework and get back to us here when you got some solid info.
...
Honestly, no one's coverage compares to Verizon's and as far as 3G voice and data coverage, yes Sprint does have better coverage than ATT. 2G and roaming is a different story. And yes, I do know what I'm talking about. We sell Sprint & ATT in my store (used to sell Verizon but ended that contract). I have coverage maps for both right in front of me. And yes, I don't think there's one major carrier that isn't where most people need to use their phones. Of course there are dead zone's and non covered areas for every carrier. I'm not gonna be biased about one carrier just because I've heard from someone that the coverage sucked for them.
