Phone Lock

Am I doing something wrong here? On the internal keypad I bring up the menu and hit 9 6 6 enter 4 digit security code then press 4 (Lock Phone Now). It says phone locked and I can do nothing on the internal keypad (as I would suspect). But when I close the phone I can make any kind of call that I want, even though the external screen says Locked. I thought the only thing that I was supposed to be able to do was receive calls. If this is the way it is supposed to work it doesn't make much sense to lock the phone. Thanks for any insight.

That is not how it should be working. You're locking it the correct way, at least the way I do it. It shouldn't allow calls to be placed while locked.

Thanks for the response. I went back to the Verizon store this morning and they claimed that locking the phone only locks the internal keypad and that being able to still make calls from the external key pad is the way it is supposed to work. I don't think so and told them so but they wouldn't listen. Now I need to decide if I want to keep the phone or return it. I like the phone in every other way, with the exception of the weak vibration in vibrating mode.

I just realized something. And maybe this is happening to you as well. Just to be sure that mine was working correctly, I locked my phone and hit my #6 speed dial and the call went thru. Tried it from the inside screen and it again went thru. But then it dawned on me that my #6 speed dial is one of my Emergency Contacts. Apparently even with the phone locked, it allows your emergency numbers to go thru. I wasn't aware of that. I tried to call my house, which isn't on my emergency list but is a speed dial on the front, and it wouldn't allow it. Til now I'd never even thought of that.

So it may be possible that you can call out with the phone locked, but it seems only to your ICE contacts. All other calls should be restric...

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! That's exactly what is happening for me. Just so happens that all of the testing I've done with the phone locked just happened to be the 3 numbers I have in ICE. It let me dial them with speed dial or by entering in the number. Funny, I just reread the manual a little bit ago and when I read the part about being able to make emergency calls while the phone is locked, all I thought of is 911. Never thought of ICE being included, but it makes sense that it is. Thanks so much for taking the time to clear this up for me. They were so out of touch at the Verizon store today on this issue. They didn't have a clue.

Thanks again.

No problem. I didn't know it did that either. Kind of suprised me when my call went through, I thought well that's crappy. But it does make sense. I'm going to change my settings around as I don't want any calls at all going out from the front keypad if it's locked.

So, how do you disable this "feature". My phone keeps dialing the 999 emergency number from my pocket. Dialing 999 translates to 911 and this has happened 5 times in the last month. Anyway to keep this from happening? Are there settings which would enable me to bypass this auto dialing from a locked keypad?
