My Choc 3 gets "confused"

At least half the time when I try to look at my photos with my VX8560 Choc 3 the thing won't display them. Instead it will display some sort of placeholder for the photo. These photos were mostly taken with my previous phone, the LG VX8300 and are on my 2G MicroSD card, but even newly-taken photos with the Choc 3 itself can do this. Furthermore, the phone seems to crash and reboot itself on occasion. This happened once in a great while with the 8300 but only after using VZ-Navigator; the Choc 3 does it frequently and it happens after trying to look at photos as well as after or during my use of Navigator. My impression is that the firmware on this phone just isn't quite ready for prime time. However, I've not see similar claims of trouble li...

No I haven't had any crashing problems. I do have a place holder for one of my vids (already on the microSD card from my VX8600) but the new vids all work fine.

Maybe you did get a lemon?

I haven't seen much if any mention of any VX8560 class problems on the Internet and Verizon says they're unaware of any problems so the problem may be confined to just me. I'm beginning to think that the problem may be my 2G MicroSD card. Although I never had problems with it when I used it with my VX8300 I put the card into a floor sample Choc3 and was able to duplicate my problems. I then went home and connected the card directly to my PC via a card reader (no phone involved) and it appears to be quite corrupted. Now did my VX8560 cause the corruption or is the card defective? I'm not sure. I plan to pull as much data as possible off the card and try to reformat it with the phone. Then I'll copy the data back (music and pictures) and see w...

Did reformatting the SD card work for you? I'm having a similar problem in that the phone cannot access any data (pix and music) on the SD card and simply rebots itself. When I take the SD card out I can access my pix and music that I've downloaded on the phone's internal memory.

Let me know if you have any more info. Thanks!

Unfortunately, no. I then bought a 4G MicroSDHC Class 2 card and it worked better but not good enough. By then my wife had upgraded to a Choc 3 of her own and so I tried both cards with it as well. Same problem. I took my Choc 3 back and got a Dare instead. It can handle all but one of my pictures and even that one it can show the thumbnail for it. My conclusion is that the faster card helped the Choc 3 and I do wonder what an even faster card such as a Class 4 or Class 6 card would have done. Bottom line is that the Choc 3 just can't handle photos much larger than 1M in size although speedier SD cards seem to help.

In case you're wondering, the answer is yes that I like the Dare. That big beautiful screen is just fabulous. Not as good as...

Very interesting. Reformatting the SD card did the trick for me. I had this phone for about 2wks and this was the first time that the SD card turned "corrupted" on me. Still don't know if it's the SD card or the phone, but your experience seem to indicate that it might be the phone.

Arrrgh! Don't know if I should replace the Choco 3 before the 30 day is up or keep it and take a gamble. I really like the clam shaped phones, can't stand the slide or the candybar shape (my idiosyncrasy). If the same thing happens again before the 30 day is up, I'll change the phone; if not, I'll bi*** and moan to VZW until they get me a new phone. 😉

My wife's Choc3 is now showing the same problems as the one I used to have. That is, it freezes up at random times to the point where nothing short of pulling the battery will free it up. This happens without her doing anything with her pictures or otherwise doing anything with her MicroSD card. I have a brand new Class 2 4Gbyte MicroSD card in it. I'm really starting to wonder if the Choc3 was released before they ironed all of the kinks out of the firmware. My wife is seriously considering trading her unit back in on something else. Too bad because she really likes the thing when it works.

I'm still doing good. My 30 day trial period is over. Let me know if your wife was able to trade it for another phone, especially if the 30 day was up.

Might be related? I have the Chocolate 3 and bought the 8Gbyte Micro SDHC card.

Whenever I load around 3 Gbyte of MP3 files the phone reboots. It loads all the files (gives a count up stauts while it's loading) but then after the last file is loaded it reboots.

When I try to play a song after the reboot it again tries to load the mem card with no success.

Tried pulling battery but it didn't help.

If I load less files onto the card it work fine.
