How do you add words to the T9 dictionary?

How do you add words to the T9 dictionary for this phone? I've tried spelling the word out in ABC mode and then switching back to T9, but it doesn't work, so please don't suggest it. This method used to work on my previous phone (2nd generation LG Chocolate), so I was wondering if anyone knows how to do it for the Samsung Sway?

Actually that is exactly how you do it. Goto Abc, type in the word you want, then the next time you start to type that word in with T9word, it will show up.

Maybe you need a software update or something? I just got my phone in February and it works just fine...
