I was wondering if anybody actually knew why the I phone does not have mms. I would like to know the specific reason why apple decided not to have mms. Thanks

Its my understanding that the iphone 3g is being marketed to the business class customer as well as the everyday user. Such as the new addition of the Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync. If you check the apple forums your not the only one who doesnt understand why they have decided to not have the mms feature with the phone. From where i sit if i had to answer this and tell a customer why, (becuase i deal with the billing side of it and tech,) currently with the plans that come with the iphones, the data and internet features are tied together, any pictures you want to send can be sent through the email. which yes i know is a pain but thats just the way it is. Until apple decides to change or add and app that will allow you to send mms, you...

you don't understand: your phone has a built in email address that sends pictures to your regular phone like any standard MMS. It's usually (your phone number)@mms.att.com or something like that.

My Dad sends me picture texts to my email on my iPhone all the time.

I hope they come up with something. I just got my first MMS on my iPhone last night and what a pain in the butt to view the picture. You basically get a text with a web link and it has a two lines of characters (user name/password if you will) that you have to write down, then hit the link, then enter all the log in info., then you can finally view the picture. Simply retarded.

To actually answer this thread I'll tell you what I've heard as to why there's the lack of mms. Steve jobs as we all know is a control freak. Giving us the mms feature, someone would figure out how to send iTunes content, thus Steve would be Losing his .99 cents per song. This is the same reason why we can't send stuff via wifi or Bluetooth. It all comes down to losing that cash money. ;)

Not true: I can get unprotected MP3's sent to my email account, and can open and play them on my phone.

There goes that idea. Try again.

It has something more to do with Steve not seeing the point of MMS, when Email is better. You see, if EVERYONE has an iPhone, MMS is obsolete. Thus, creating his own little stupid world.

The idevice or the g1? Ill start with the Topic first, the iphone is far from the best phone on the market PERIOD! First of all its a phone it should take good if not great calls which it does not. This is an ipod turned into a phone should be way more impressive as a media device. No mms No video this is pathetic ๐Ÿคฃ Free flip phones come with this service not to mention this feature has been around for a long time, even before the ipod. at&t's 3g sucks and safari crashes more in a day then my phone has since i purchased it over a year ago. What a rip off. Cant change ur sim card or battery manually wtf. What if u need to swap phones or worse battery dies and no outlet near by POS refund! ASAP list goes on but I hope u get the point!!!

Truly, to use your comparison, the iPhone is a Porsche without a cassette deck (MMS). It's not necessary when you have full email support.

If you want to argue that, for the money, you should have the CHOICE to use it, I won't fight you there.

I've had both iPhones since the day they've come out. Never had the issues you've referenced here. Safari is brilliant, battery life is acceptable (given all it does) and 3G has been fine here in the Philadelphia suburbs.

Sounds like you need a new phone. Good luck.

MMS is outdated technology. Almost all phones can send to an e-mail address now and most can receive e-mail as well. Why pay to send a pic through MMS when you can send it in a higher res format for free in an e-mail?

If you feel you must have MMS just download Flutter.

Have her take the pic and then e-mail it to your phone from hers. The z750 supports e-mail protocols. MMS is seriously falling to the wayside since almost all phones are not e-mail capable.

Classy response...you are starting to sound like just an Apple basher and not a real person.

I guess we keep forgetting why anyone with an iPhone would be concerned with such behind the times phones. If you just want picture messaging get a cheap camera phone. If your wife wants to be able to keep up with technology start paying a few dollars a month for internet on her phone.

If you want to stay in the dark ages of cell phone technology do not complain when the rest of the world passes you by and your phone becomes obsolete.

Let's remember that there are two sides to this formula. Everyone that has an iPhone and doesn't think it needs MMS because it has e-mail has a right to that opinion. But the percentages of overall cell phone use aren't in your favor. MMS is not falling, it's growing, regardless of what Apple says. It it were falling, then Telia and others wouldn't work so hard to get it on the iPhone. If it is such a no big deal thing to iPhone owners, why not just support it anyway. You won't have to implement it. My mother for example doesn't have a smartphone. Many if not most cell phone owners don't. She doesn't want e-mail on here phone, so she and my father subscribe to limited number of MMS/SMS messaging. I'm the only one in the family that...

if you are going to pay for MMS why not just put that same money into paying for web service. Then you can send pics and so much more. Paying for something as limiting as MMS is not very productive.

As far as MMS itself, when I was in Europe last year almost no one used MMS. It seems they all have web enabled phones...some pretty cool ones too.

Nov 24, 2008, 7:10 PM
Again. Telling people with that don't want web services that they are wrong doesn't help. They are the majority. They want MMS, not web service. Telling them to work around the iPhone limitation is the wrong answer. At this point we, the iPhone owners must accept the limitation and be will to live without the MMS commerce with other people. They don't want the web service. They want the MMS. And as the news shows, yes as early as a year ago, MMS was not taking off. But as recently as a month ago, the number of MMS usuages has more than doubled. So, it is not a factual statement that paying for MMS is not very productive, that is an opinion that alienates, the largest share of the cell phone market.

And in case of Europe, MMS is ...

You are completely wrong about MMS and are misrepresenting it's value.

MMS has failed to live up to expectations. It has increased slightly in use from "dismal" levels to "slightly better than dismal." It is widely being abandoned in favor of more versatile web based communications. Especially in Asian and European markets.

Anyone interested in the truth about MMS just needs to google the terms "MMS, failed technology" and you will be flooded with tech articles relating how badly MMS has performed as a technology as far as living up to usage expectations.

If you want to cling to MMS and hope the world stops moving on then all I can do is wish you luck and hope that you don't feel too bad when things do not work out the way you hoped...

Well, I've given you truth. Whether you choose to try and understand it is up to you. I am not wrong nor did I misrepresent. You can turn the search around if you are trying to show success and get just as many articles talking about MMS being on the rise and being a success for the future. It just depends what type of search you are trying to do. I agree that IM is hard for MMS to compete with. But trying to predict the direction people will go for use of handsets is next to impossible in this new Web 2.0 age. And the digital natives are out in force. But digital immigrants will clinge to the technologies they feel comfortable with e.g. MMS. It isn't going anywhere any time soon and is on the rise.

They credit the greatly expanding availability of IM and mobil e-mail on cell phone. MMS cannot compete with these other technologies.

Those unlimited plans are not free. They charge you for them. You might as well just get internet service as pay for MMS messages. The ones that they try to make appear free are just on the pre-paid phones where you are paying high rates already because you have bad credit and can't get real service.
