Just to make sure I understand this - since it's a CDMA phone, if you buy one it will work with Verizon, correct? Just they don't have them for sale directly at the Verizon stores?

It technically would but Sprint and Verizon block each others serial numbers from working on each others networks, otherwise it would just need the PRL (tower list/frequency settings) of the other carrier put on the phone.

I have it on decent, yet changeable, authority that Verizon will NOT be carrying the Treo 800w because it has failed Verizon's testing department over and over and over again. This is a regular issue for Palm devices, not just the 800w. For instance, the 755p took forever to launch due to its inability to work properly with the E911 system in certain testing areas around the US.

On a personal note, after working for Verizon the last several years, I have to confess that anyone who lives and dies by the Palm Treo, regardless of carrier, is probably kidding themselves into believing its the best thing on the market. There are many more devices of exceptional quality in the industry. Additionally, I would probably share the opinion of ma...

I couldn't possibly disagree with you more.

There are no other devices on VZW (or any other major carrier that I'm aware of) that are:

Windows Mobile Pro
Candybar Form Factor (sliding keyboards are a no go for a LOT of people whether they are a no go for you or not)
Full Qwerty
With iR
Bluetooth

Unless I'm missing something?

The Treo's, at least the 700 series, are SERIOUSLY lacking when it comes to using them with a bluetooth earpiece. I have used an 800w for the last couple weeks and that problem appears to be solved now with that phone (but Sprint proved to be too much of a problem so we're back on VZW)...

So, with the 800w those of us needing a candy bar form factor, full qwerty, windows mobile PRO, iR & bluetooth wi...

Sorry for the late response, I wasn't notified of any replies.

I could make a phone that does everything, has everything, and even makes me breakfast in the morning and has the ability to print bona fide US currency out the side, and it still wouldn't be worth squat because Palm made it.

You have to understand that some devices might have everything, but that doesn't make them good.

When Verizon takes back a device they send it to a central warehouse for processing. These processed handsets are turned into "refurbished" models and sent back to the stores (or left in the warehouse) to be used as field replacement units (warranty models). Verizon literally eats each of these units - they are not sent back to Palm or wh...

There is no better business devices that facilitates one handed operation. Palm's old philosophy regarding operating systems was that nothing should take more than 3 clicks. The beauty of the Palm OS was that it was unique and very simple to learn. Microsoft's philosophy is to give the ability for a user to perform an action 10 different ways, then the user can choose their preferred method. This is very complicated for some people but the software platform is very robust and flexible. Palm has taken the Microsoft OS and tweaked it to make common actions simple to use without needing to pull out a stylus in most cases. That is why the Treo is the best business device, it's because you can do anything you want quickly with one hand. By ...

By the way, Verizon will be releasing the 800w and the Blackberry Thunder on 8/22
Verizon dropped it due to battery life and other problems. They are getting the Pro in CDMA instead

Sorry, I don't know where you got those release dates but you shouldn't puke that fake information with such confidence. Although I do agree with your Palm opinions.

The Blackberry Thunder isn't called that any longer. It's being called the Storm. They claim a release date of 10/28... but that could change. It's being labelled as an iphone killer just like any other touch screen phone. It's blackberrys first attempt at a touchscreen phone.

The palm 800w won't be coming to Verizon for awhile due to quality testing... there is no release date mentioned anywhere. However the Treo Pro is on its way... which is just the windows version of the centro.

Sure, that works for me. I'm glad someone is able to translate what I said into "dumb."

I don't have enough time to go through instance after instance concerning why or how I come to the conclusion that the Palm phone "sux" (as you so eloquently put it). Not only would there be a lot to cover, I would gladly ignore the Palm devices and focus on something else that works more reliably.

Look, some people use, love, and work well with Palm devices. That's great. I've spent many years watching these devices, above all, have issue after issue with little to no design changes made in effort to improve the device.

No device is perfect. Palm, in my professional and experienced opinion, is one of the farthest from perfection.

Uh, I hate to break it to you, but Palm is one of the best phones on the market next to Blackberry. How can they not be? They have one of the most stable operating systems (The PalmOS), and many features that work solid, aside from bluetooth... which hopefully they will fix. I think you are kidding yourself when you badmouth Palm Treos... Its a solid phone, I work in Tech support and it is the least called about phone and owned by just as many people that own Blackberry. Yet Blackberry is the ones we're constantly fixing all the time.

I think anyone who lives and dies by LG are kidding themselves, and especially Motorola fans. I feel bad for the KRZR crowds.

The fact is, Palm has solid phones that are reliable and out do any other PDA...

Question for anyone/everyone who might have some info on this phone. I got the 700w and due for an upgrade Oct 6th. I'm crossing my fingers that VZW is gonna pick up this phone for a better Blackberry, I'd rather have the 800w. Does anyone know FOR SURE if it will be released anytime soon for VZW?? I've read so much on here from different ppl I would really like a good answer. Thanks everyone!

Hate to be the bringer of bad news but no signs of Verizon Wireless picking this up anytime soon. Word is that the 800w has failed the quality testing and they wonLt take it for now. No idea if that's the truth but thats the word circling out there. I wouldn't say they aren't going to get it... but it will be awhile. VZW has picked up every other Treo.
