Stand alone GPS? Verizon steeling it's memory?
Hi,
I'm getting this phone tomorrow, I hope. Does it have stand alone GPS built in? Did Verizon really take away some of the memory???
...
Verizon did cripple the memory. They only have 128 MB of RAM. Some one should be beaten with a rubber hose. I waited on getting the XV6800 because they reduced the memory on that, so I could get 288 MB of RAM. Then Verizon decides to drop the amount of RAM AND charge more for this phone than any other carrier.
Im going to look into porting the Sprint version, because I need the RAM for a specific work application (its a memory hog, probably due to bad programming).
I did speak with a rep and they said that the GPS is still a standalone feature, although I would want to see it on a demo model before I believe it 100%. Verizon was not able to confirm the accelerometer is in the phone.

What the hell did they do that for? How do they benefit from that?
...
I believe what the rep meant, is you can use things like Google Maps and use the GPS from there to help without paying them for it. The Sprint version, i LOVE it. I havent gotten to play with the VZ one. The G sensor on the Sprint Pro works excellent!

Can I use the GPS alone with the Verizon phone?
...
with a puck yes. The G Sensor is on the VZW version too.

It does have GPS built in. Verizon has cut the RAM. It is down from 288 MB to 192 MB. After the OS and Touch Flow 3D, you are left with 60 MB of RAM that are usable. You get almost 160 MB of RAM with every other carrier.
