moving between next and previous email messages

How can one move between next and previous email messages without exiting to the main email list and selecting the next or previous message?

I tried to use the left and right arrows in the keypad but they only switched between the 9 pages of symbols.

With a message open, move your finger right over the optical mouse to go to next message and left for previous (I have the mouse set to 4-way navigation mode, not mouse mode)

If you do the same thing in the message list mode, it will switch between email accounts, SMS, etc.
