You may want to look at the Dare from LG. I have looked at the Omnia and have a buddy at a local Verizon store try but as of 11-14-08 when they activate the phone it will only work on the data plan. The Dare has a lot of the same ideas and you don't need the data plan.

I would suggest just going with the omnia over the dare. Yes there is no way to get around paying the 30 dollars a month for the data plan. But if you want to use the Internet feature on the dare it cost around 15 dollars a month. Also check with the company you work for and Verizon you may get a corporate discount.

I understand that and the guy I was posting back to isn't using the internet and doest't need all of the extra's. When the time comes I'll probaly grab a Omnia when I can get it in the budget.

From what I heard, and I have seen the option, there is a loophole. Just log into your Verizon Wireless account online and go under features. The data plan is checked, just uncheck it.
Not sure if it works because I like my plan but if anyone wants to try or verify this please post. 😈

What "Features" does this phone have that no other phones do besides smartphone capability ones? Wifi is a smartphone feature. There is no dumbphone that currently has this feature.
And no, there is no way to get around the data charges. Even if you somehow were able to block it, you would most likely cripple the phone and/or have the features and a 3000 bill from pay as you go data.
There is a reason verizon puts a requirements on these phones. One for the features, and two because they build their network a certain way. if you try to circumvent those rules, it is always more trouble than it is worth.
