BlackBerry Curve 8900
No 3g?
I do not wan't the bold, but I would hate to buy a brand new blackberry, and not be able to take advantage of the 3g network and data speed.
Is there a noticeable difference if the phone will not have 3g? Also, what why would someone get this over the Bold, or vice versa?
Atts 3g network is garbage, so trust me, the enhanced edge speeds should be pretty solid.
and people will choose this over the bold due to the size and form factor.
And believe it or not, some people dont want 3G because their network isnt that strong (I know people with att bolds, that turn off their 3G)
I'm not trying to spark a fight, just asking a simple question.
But as 'cwcanty' said ATT's 3G isn't as good as others.
I've recently spent some time in class for work. And every day I'd walk into the classroom my phone would drop from 3G to EDGE like clockwork. And again when there is inclement weather my phone says 3G but I get the tell tail cell phone warble while I'm talking on it.
Witch tells me that ATT's 3G service is good but not as strong as others.
I am currently using the BOLD and I find myself using Wifi much more often than 3G. The 3G network in most major metropolitan areas are great. I live in San Francisco and I spent last weekend in LA and San Diego with no major problems with my browsing speed. There are occasional lapses where I would switch to EDGE, but overall it was fine. ATT 3G is nowhere near perfect, there are blind spots. There are rare times where I would drop to GPRS!??!?!
3G coverage outs...

Att 3G network is okay, its just not as expansive and verizons (IMO).
I think its pretty impressive how much 3G coverage has rolled out in the past year.
I have a Bold and don't run into issues. I'll take simultaneous voice/data any day over EDGE!
I would love the chance to turn off 3G. My battery lasts all day at least, but it would be nice not have HAVE to charge it every night. I've had nothing but near-perfect coverage in the Detroit area. I can count on one hand the number of times my phone hasn't had 3G coverage with full bars (got my Bold 11/4).
Obviously unlocking the carrier one wouldn't give you any more options if they removed it..
I haven't done any research on the availability of the bold w/o AT&T branding, but it's the first thing I thought of.
However....I have repeatedly sat next to VZW people (and I was VZW for a long time) and my fruity-phone (and currently my Xperia X1) will load pages and surf faster than them. Granted....they can surf in more places. 🙂
Day-to-day, for me.....I see much faster performance.
I know, I know...I just better not move out of my little corner of the world!! 🙂
2. pixels are slightly better
3. 3.2mp camera with auto focus and flash
4. SIZE
5. battery life
difference? id say the bold is 5-10% faster.
3g? they both feel the same to me.
When this comes to CDMA networks, it almost certainly will be 3G (EVDO), like the CDMA Pearls and Curves before it.
With that said, I want to note that a lot of Blackberry users do not use the browsing feature on their phone. Most of my customers (I work at ATT, sad, but true) buy Blackberry's to utilize the push email, text, and IM feature. In this case, EDGE is more than enough to handle this. There are another group of customers that uses Blackberry's for the fact that they are very dependable phones with a full qwerty keyboard.
My opinion is that if you want 3G, go with the bold. Just remember the price is $100 more. If you want a great phone, camera, organizer, qwerty,...

OR.. You can get the bold, which has 3G that gives you faster speeds, plus you can stream videos, live music, and other stuff too. AND your paying the same price either $30 or $50.
I dont know about you guys, but if I'm paying AT&T $50 dollars for unlimited data and text, I would go with the Bold that would give me more features. Remember, curve doesnt have streaming videos.
While 3G is faster than EDGE, the price difference makes up for the it. Keep in mind the blackberry packages are the same for their phones that are 3G as well.
as other have said, the 8900 curve can do everything the Bold can, just not as fast.
Since Blackberry isn't ready to commit to T-Mobile 3G network, this is T-Mobile's "bold" option for their users.
