Hi all . . . really love this phone; enV3. Size and features are great but I think I'm having reception issues and question this about the phone. I'm in certain areas where reception is low but feasible (one or two bars). My old Moto Razr was able to work, only every once in a while had issues. This phone has not provide a call yet in 2 days that didn't drop, breakup, or have difficulties.
Any other experiences?

Where do you live and work?

Since buying the phone my reception has only gotten worse every day. =/ otherwise i like the phone. but i ALREADY after two months have to exchange for a new/refurbished model because the internal screen is going haywire, like a satellite tv during a storm, and/or displaying an all black screen.

I too have had reception issues! UGH! I have dropped calls multipe times! Verizon suggest dialing *228 and choosing option 2 so that you will connect to your nearest service tower but I have done that. My last phone (LG8700) did very well in the same location where I am using my new EnV. My phone has also been shutting off randomly [with ample battery life] so I think I will take it in and get another enV. PLEASE PSOT IF YOU FIND OUT ANY OTHER INFO!

First, I would definately take the phone back; I have 2 enV3's and they work great and have none of the issues you are describing. In fact, I am frankly surprised at the battery life we both get considering the amount of texting, e-mail viewing with the web browser, and bluetooth use we have with the phone.
With regard to my reception issues; my old Moto did better at my home. That being said, my home has issues . . . we are in a poor reception pocket and I think the Moto had slightly better reception but not much. In the end I purchased from Verizon a Network Extender; they say it's like having a cell tower in you home. It work in combo with your internet router and by grabbing a GPS signal. Anyway the end result is . . . WOW . . . ...

I have the ENV3 as well and I am having reception issues as well. I'm lucky if i get above 2 bars anywhere and I'm on my third phone , its definitely going back for good this time. As far as the extender , well they offered that to me too however I chose not to get it because why would I want to spend the additional $250 for a MOBILE phone , I could use that money better else where. Like a better phone that gets better reception Also once I leave the house , now what , still the same crappy reception . They still have some ENV2's in the store and comparing the two the ENV2 had more bars. it had full bars while the 3 had 2. I thinks its either just a bad phone or its needs and update. That said so long ENV3 and Verizon.
...
I have to say that my reception is great everywhere except the issue I had at my home. I fixed the problem at home with the Extender. Yes, I argued with Verizon, why am I paying extra to provide coverage to me at home; isn't that what I'm paying you to provide. But in reality, you can't expect perfect coverage everywhere from any provider; they all have "pockets" with issues.
Verizon is by far the best, it's just my luck I have issues at my home, I spent the money to correct it. No more problem. I find that the battery life is even better; I guess it's not trying as hard to find a cell.
Just my opinion.

Question: When you say poor reception, do you mean actually dropping calls, or are you going only by the number of bars showing? Visible bars isn't as important on Verizon phones as it is with ATT and some other carriers. I can be in spots where it only shows the 1X symbol and no bars and have no issues texting/calling. With my verizon phone, I find that as long as I have service, I can do everything I need. (I use the EnV2)
That being said, the EnV3's we've activated at our store seem to have bar for bar what my EnV2 had (occasionally better EVDO). If it is causing that much of an issue for you, I would suggest taking it back to the store you bought it from and exchanging it. If the ESN's are similar on your phones, it could just ...

You guys need to make up your minds. First on any network , signal strength is very important for clarity and maintaining calls and the "are supposed to be an idi ator of that. If it doesn't matter only on verizon then why bother putting it there ? It only is a distraction then and the perception would be that it's getting crappy re eption or are you just a fanboy? Verizon is so great it doesn't need signal strength to perform. Hmmm , not. Also the first post says that his old moto phone got better reception then this phone. It was bad Enough that you had to spend a pretty good amount of money to get it to work in your house. Sounds like your old phone was better to me and you didn't have to spend $275 to get it to work. Shouldn't that be ...

I don't know about the bars . . . you comment makes sense but I see several phones in the same location with all different bars being displayed; who know what it means . . . I think it close but not totally accurate.
The phone works great in other areas. Many, many areas have full or partial service and it's fine. Of course as I said I have poor reception by my home and of course some other spots (my house isn't the only poor area) but otherwise the service is great.
All manufacturers differ; Moto I think consistantly will provided better service from what I've seen; please, not night and day, just marginably better. I had issues with the Moto in my house as well, just was slightly better. I think we explect more of a new phone and...

Motorola's traditionally do have a bit stronger antenna's, where they suffer is battery life, processing power (screen lag) and they seem to be really prone to software/hardware glitches.
IMO, the strongest antennas (by manufacturer) for verizon are:
Blackberry (Consistently the strongest signal)
-
-
Motorola
LG (close, but not as good)
Samsung (Range from excellent to aweful depending on model)
Random Third party phones
But with all verizon phones, they will still function fine on only a few bars service. Unlike GSM, they don't need to maintain a constant connection to the tower to keep a call, but rather send the information in packets.

Signal strength is important, but it's not AS important with Verizon as it is with ATT. I can only have 1-2 bars and not have any issues with call clarity/reception while my brother (or anyone else with ATT) can have 2-3 bars and have a noticeable difference compared to if they had full bars.
Honestly, I think you just got a bad batch of phones because both this sites review, other site reviews, and the feedback from my customers show that this phone has great coverage.

When I say poor reception I mean, I dial a number and more often than not I either do not connect or I do connect but will experience a drop call within some point of the conversation. When calls come in, I'll pick it up but will either not be able to speak to the individaul on the other side or do connect and will expereince a drop.
I've been to two stores and compared the enV3 and the Touch and the Touch will always have more bars . . . whether it matters or not I don't know.

wierd.. Granted I have the EnV2, but I've never missed a connection for a call, and only drop calls when i drive through this town that hates every cellphone ever created.

So, how is it that you can comment on a phone that you don't even own. And I'm sorry, when you say "your store" I'm assuming that its a Verizon store. would that be safe to assume. . Islander just said that he was compared his phone with the touch and it had more bars. I originally said that I compared it to the ENV 2 and it also had more bars. SO one could conclude that the env3 sucks. As far as you argument with a bad batch of phones , got one from best buy and another from a verizon store , both had the same reception , 2 bars mostly anywhere except where I got 1 bar. Why not ask islander where he lives because his phone sucks too and I'm not sure he bought his from the same batch. Maybe the whole batch sucks. Like I said fanboy it could ...

Verizon is converting to 4g (Also known as LTE, or Long Term Evolution), which while closer in tech to GSM than CDMA it is not "GSM."
CDMA towers break up the conversation into packets, allowing a single tower to handle more volume than a GSM tower of similar configuration could. This is why I stated that "more bars" with a CDMA phones does not always mean better service. In general this is the case, but having full bars is not as important for Verizon/Sprint phones as it is for ATT/Tmobile because of the way the phones handle signal.
They don't deal with information the same way, or they would be the same Technology and not two incompatible ones.
I am commenting on the phone because I have the previous generation of the phone, o...

Again I call'em as I see'em fanboy. You work in a Verizon store , how else would you vote so to speak. Plus again as i said , I would read up and get your facts straight, verizon is converting to a sim based GSM system. Also again if you can get out of your little Verizon dream land you can google some of the review for this phone and see for yourself that its a common complaint that the reception is wide issue for this piece of crap. I know it takes a little bravery but walk outside once in a while , its a pretty diverse world beyond verizon fanboy.

They are converting to Sim based LTE, which is in the same path as GSM, but is not just GSM with faster speeds.
And yes, I work for verizon. But if we were talking the Glyde, 90% of the motorola's, or the Samsung Omnia you would hear no greater critic than me. There are quite a few phones on Verizon's network that I really dislike and will do everything to get customers to no buy them (unless they insist on it) because I'll take a hit when they return it three days later.
But I own an env phone, I've been selling this phones predecessor for months, and this phone for almost a month with no real issues. I'm not saying that you are making up your issues, I am saying that the phones you tried could be bad, but it is more than likely ju...

Call it what you want , it's GSM. Most of europe is GSM and therefore the reason for the switch. So they can compete in those markets.
As far a googling the review , search further. There are quite a few reviews and youtube videos where current owners have had previous phones including the env2 and stated that they have less reception and unable to make calls where once they used to be able to.
As far as "mocking" you , good but no cigar on the psychology. I would take someones view who is impartial over someone who is part of the machine claiming to be impartial. I have no vested interest other then comment on the deficiencies of the phone , you however have made it clear that you would be taking a "hit" if it was returned HMMM !!! ...

If you think anyone is impartial, you need to think again. everyone has opinions. Yes, I have a vested interest in the phones, meaning that if a phone doesnt work, I won't sell it. I'll tell others not to buy it. I have no interest in promoting a bad phone because doing so only hurts my bottom line. If you want to know how good a computer is, you ask someone who repairs computers. the one that gives him the least headaches is typically the best choice. Yes, he is biased, but this does not invalidate his opinion.
We are going to LTE because it is a better technology and will give us access to a greater number of phones since it is the standard most carriers are moving to (all but Sprint in the US). Verizon has no interest in compet...

Ok Menno,
You seem to know something so I'll ask you. I've been having the same issues with my ENV3. Some places it has great reception but others I can't keep a call for anything. I've had the phone for less than three weeks and am on my 3rd hand set. I've talked to the tech sevices and they're going to check out the towers but what I don't understand is, my freind with an env2 who sits less than 10 ft from me at work has full bars and signal all day but all my calls are imposible to make out whats being said and get dropped. If the 3 has a better antena then how come the 2 is kicking my phones but?
...
I too am having the same problem. My girlfriend's old Chocolate 2 never dropped a call at my house and as soon as she and I get a family plan and we both get EnV3's I can barely hold a short conversation without losing the call. Anyone?
