Trackball Cleaning or Replacing = Take Tour Completely Apart

Wait until your Tour's trackball gets clogged with gunk - it won't take long. The trackball on this model is NOT accessible from the front by merely popping off a chrome trim ring like you can with the Curve and Pearl. The Tour must be completely disassembled and the trackball assembly is then accessed from behind.

I remember the days when I had a mouse with a ball that had to be removed and cleaned every month or two. That eventually got replaced with optical tech. Blackberry is already planning on dumping the mechanical trackball in favor of an optical trackball (touch pad). I think I'll skip this phone (and all tough-to-service) Blackberry mechanical trackball devices.

I don't know what line of work you are in or what you do when you use your BB. My ball on Pearl still looks clean and works really well after 2 years of abuse at various construction sites.
May be you want to wash your hands more often, and go easy on greasy food. 😁

Wait, let me get this straight, you don't even have a 'berry and you're bitching about the trackball getting dirty?

I've had a Curve for a little over 8 months now. In my line of work, my phone gets abused (hence the Otterbox covering it). In addition, I like wrenching on my own vehicles which leaves me with greasy hands.

Never once have I had to remove my trackball to clean it. Don't get me wrong, it's gotten "stuck" a few times (usually won't roll right, but will roll up, down and left) but a few "flicks" of the ball with my fingernail and that is taken care of.

Even better in the first year there is a warranty. 😁

Rubbing alchohol and putting pressure on the ball as you move it around will even clean crappy standard Apple desktop Mac mouses (still being shipped with current Macs)with their non removable rubber pencil eraser sized scroll balls on top. 🤣
